I am looking for a book suggestion for a friend of mine. She has stopped receiving Jesus in holy communion because she feels she is not worthy. Its becoming far too often that she is in my opinion getting too caught up in that thought for a year now.

She goes to confession, but yet does not go up to communion at Mass.

Is there a book that will help her on this matter, which she seems to be stuck on for awhile

In the Gospel of Saint Luke, on first encountering Our Saviour, Saint Peter says to him: “Depart from me, Lord, I am a sinful man.”

The greatest of saints, such as Saint Ambrose, have also alluded to their unworthiness in their much-loved “Prayers before Communion”.

The truth is that all of us are unworthy sinners. It is only through His grace and His mercy that we can approach the Sacrament of His Precious Body and Blood. 🙂

Has she had the opportunity of would she be willing to talk to a priest about this matter?. Seems she could use some counsel from a priest as to why she does not feel worthy to commune.

Mary.

Her need and her feelings of not being worthy, are why she should indeed receive our Lord … by receiving the Eucharist are we helped by our Lord to become more worthy … none of us are truly worthy … but we try to be as worthy as possible … and receiving the Eucharist is a way in which to continue to grow in that area. At least this is what I believe.

I went through a time like that, possibly a little scrupulous. My husband told me what Katherine438 said so well and that made a huge difference in my faith. It did strengthen my faith and helped open my heart more.

God bless you for being such a good friend.🙂

The Lord knows that I’ve made so many mistakes in my life … I’m always asking for forgiveness for past sins from our Lord … I thank God for the Divine Mercy … it is my only path to salvation.

I don’t know how I ever helped you, but if I did, it was only God using me as a tool … may God Bless and keep you.
