Noticing a Trend for Mid-week evening Mass

Our priest recently (just int he last two weeks), created a survey to be filled out about this very topic. He wants the opinions of the parishioners to see what kind of weekday Mass schedule they would like.

We have a 17:15 daily Mass. It’s been thinly-attended at times (one exceptionally snowy day last December, I think there was a congregation of two, myself included), but there are usually one to two dozen people there, and subjectively the average attendance seems to have grown over the last year. I gently encourage people to attend if they can, and I think it’s a nice way to re-center one’s focus on God at the end of the workday.

One parish church in my city has a 6p Wed Mass which I think is great. I’ve started noticing this in other cities. Is anything like this happening in your area? Please share!
i can think of two parishes that have an evening daily mass in my city

the catholic student center has mass at 6pm and 11:45 am every day except friday no 6pm mass on friday

There are 2 parishes in my area with 7pm Masses. They are on Thursdays, following 12 hours of Exposition (from 7am Thursday morning.) That is really very nice.

I know several local parishes that have over the course of the years changed Mass times…
HaHa, this reminds me of something the Archbishop said at our parish once: “I’ve never known a parish whose Mass times were literally written in stone” (the Mass times for our parish are, literally, chiseled in stone near the front entrance. However, we recently added a Mass (the TLM) which isn’t listed “in stone”. LOL

I think a lot of parishes might have a Wednesday night Mass to combat Protestant services. Many Protestant denominations have services or meetings on Wednesday night. At my parish, we specifically designed a Mass and youth group on Wednesday night to keep the teenagers from attending these other services. Apparently, they are “a lot of fun” and they get invited by their evangelizing HS buddies to them quite a lot.

I think thats something the protestants don’t get not saying they all do but some think its important to keep their people entertained while praising God. Just like some little 10 year old girl said in the movie jesus camp. (this is a paraphrase) “God likes to be in the churches who jump all around sing real loud and dance, not the churches who just sing plainly out of some book god isn’t in those churches.”

but worship isn’t ment to be an entertainment, worship is something you do in thanksgiving for God for all that he has done in your life, you are doing something that is pleasing to God and what is pleasing to God may not always be the “most fun thing to do” but it works for your salvation, and nothing on earth can ever compare to what we will have in heaven.

those are my thoughts at-least and its good that our churches do this.
