What is right is not always popular.
Which is why I am not surprised*, *but am disappointed, that more haven’t voiced their opposition to President Obama speaking at Notre Dame.

(however at least in a comparison between the two competing petitions, I am heartened that the “in support of” petition has relatively few signers)

That doesn’t follow, unless you can correct what I understand (which I would be grateful for):

From my understanding:
  1. The online petition for those opposing ND’s decision has 100 thousand plus signatures.
  2. The online petition for those supporting ND’s decision as 10 thousand plus signatures.
Your response would then be…?

I am heartened by the relatively few who signed in support of President Obama speaking. When you pointed out that what is right is not always popular, I noted that this explains why I am not surprised that more have not signed the petition opposing (i.e. it is not as popular as it should be).

By, the way, I think about 28,000 have signed the petition in support and about 233,000 have signed the petition against. Perhaps we are looking at different petitions, or maybe you were just rounding.

Nope, your numbers coincide with what I’ve heard. Hundreds of thousands have signed against, tens of thousands have signed for.

Which confirms the aphorism I cited previously: what is right is not always popular (and, conversely, what is popular is not always right).

Everyone’s free to interpret valid statistics as they want to.

Thank you for your support.

Which is why I note that “what is right is not always popular” would apply to the fact that not everyone has signed petitions against.

In other words: the pool of people is composed of far more than the sum of these two petitions. Out of millions of Catholics only a relatively few have signed the petition against, thus confirming that “what is right is not always popular”.

VC

. . .and objectively fewest have signed the petition against.

I think we have covered it.

VC

Thank you.

Unfortunately, the link you provided was only for those who opposed ND’s actions. In the interest–as you note–of letting them resolve the issue themselves, those are so interested should also be given the opportunity to express support. I think those who are most affected should be given the catholic option to form their own conscience and act accordingly.

To tell you the truth digger, the liberal side has so much support, you know, the government, the media that helped bo get elected, I didn’t think they needed my support so I didn’t give the website you so kindly gave. Thanks a bunch.

My prayers are with them, their courage in standing up for the Faith is truly a beautifull thing!

For the unborn, for the Notre Dame 2009 graduates standing up to defend the unborn, and for the conversion of President Obama:

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
