Didn’t challenge the interview given by Father Martin when he criticized Trump.
I didn’t know Fr. Martin had a connection to Notre Dame. Could you enlighten me? Thanks.
Lou Holtz coached for 44 years at many great universities but did coach at Notre Dame for 10 years from 1986 to 1996, a great many years ago but somehow President Jenkins had to make it clear that it was not Notre Dame’s position and scold him for his speech.

Holtz coached at Ohio State, NY Jets, Connecticut, William and Mary, Iowa, Connecticut, North Carolina State University, University of South Carolina, University of Minnesota, and University of Arkansas. Holtz was a commentator for CBS sports.

I also don’t see why Fr. Jenkins felt the need to push back on Lou Holtz’s speech. Does Fr. Jenkins really think that some people might think that Lou Holtz speaks for Notre Dame?

In his short statement he says that Notre Dame doesn’t endorse “any candidate or any political party“, but it sure seems like he’s going out of his way to defend one candidate of one political party.

I’ll take what Notre Dame says seriously when they rescind their honorary doctorate they awarded to President Obama early in his first term.

Besides, Lou Holtz is a former coach for the school. His is a private citizen who doesn’t speak for Notre Dame. Who does Fr. Jenkins think he is, reprimanding another adult not speaking on behalf of the school? I suspect he is a closet Biden fan. Probably not popular to say, but we don’t have to pretend to be stupid either.

I just wish ND had give an honorary degree to the student they barred from attending because he was black. Princeton barred him, too, but eventually gave him an honorary degree.

The objection was not from “Notre Dame”, it was the personal complaint of its president, Fr. John Jenkins, and quite frankly there is no particular reason to be much concerned about it. His objection is that "…we may judge the objective moral quality of another’s actions, we must never question the sincerity of another’s faith…"

So what, one might ask, is Fr. Jenkin’s objection? Here are Holtz’s comments:

The Biden-Harris ticket is the most radically pro-abortion campaign in history. They and other politicians are Catholics in name only and abandon innocent lives.

That seems to be a judgment about “the objective moral quality of another’s actions.” If the term Catholic in name only applies to anyone surely it would apply to those who “abandon innocent lives” by supporting abortion. That being the case, what is Fr. Jenkin’s real objection to pointing out the obvious?
