and you most certainly are judging McBrien, saying that he intentionally tried to destroy the Church.
I most certainly am judging his actions. Something Christians are called to do.

And I’m judging the veracity of the claim that he loved the Church. This is pure poppycock. Jesus defined what love is, and his actions did not display love. (love is not an emotional “feeling” in our heart, it is sacrificial self-giving, and obedience to God’s commands).

“If you love me, keep my commands.”

Do you see any obedience which would be evidence of love?

Isn’t he the priest at Notre Dame who everyone knew had a common law wife?

There is a well known Catholic website video which says it was common knowledge at his once-orthodox university.

Regarding the man himself, his love was for a different church; the one he and his ilk envisioned. There was no love lost for St. JPII or Benedict.

May God have mercy on his soul, and help the Church repair some of the untold damage McBrien’s words will continue to inflict on Her and numerous students and trusting laity.

Nonsense. A person can’t claim to be a NY Yankees fan and love the team, and then wear Boston Red Sox t-shirts every day.

Constantly undermining clear Church teaching is blatant manifest evidence of a lack of love for the Church. All the talk and feelings in the world are meaningless if you actively work to undermine the Church.
Exactly. To give another example, you can’t be a true fan of Doctor Who and say that the show is terrible and of low-quality at the same time. That’s a betrayal to the fandom you’re in.

Same is true when one is a member of a Catholic Church who claims to love the Church. When one loves someone he or she loves it completely and wholeheartedly, not pick, mix and leave out some aspects of the person. Doing that is… selfish.
