I’ve been gone for awhile now. Did a big announcement every come down about a universal indult? I’m guessing no or there would be a hot thread running. Just one more rumor from the mill?
The Holy Father isn’t going to do that, and I would be willing to bet my next paycheck on it. If the TLM was of any concern to him whatsoever he would have already done something… It obviously isn’t, he hasn’t and probably won’t so why wait with baited breath for something that will not happen.Sorry - We’ve discussed the implications here, and I’m sure Pope Benedict XVI has tried to convince the Bishops to allow more TLMs in their Dioceses, but so long as the TLM is said on an indult, some Bishops will obey the Pope’s order to allow it in the most grudging fashion possible (2000 - Pope John Paul II ordered the Bishops to allow the TLM to those Congregations who expressed a need for the Mass).
I’m sure a lot of us will hear about it when the Pope decided to make it Universal and take it out ot the hands of Bishops who don’t want to allow the people any option to a badly translated version of the Novus Ordo.
FYI, The Church does say that parishes can say the NO in Latin WITHOUT the permission of their Bishops.
The NO in Latin is actually a beautiful service if done correctly.
In Christ, Michael

Nothing wrong with having hope. I’ll always hope. I just don’t think he will do anything about it, thats all… With the current mindset of the Bishops around the world, and with the general attitude towards collegiality, the Popes position is really quite weak in that regard. While in theory he has the final say, I doubt he would want to alienate a large pervcentage of his Bishops.Dear Palmas85,
That is very pessimistic. The fact is, none of us know the goings-on of the Vatican, and, therefore, don’t know why exactly the Pope has delayed any action. But hope we *can *entertain, because Benedict XVI likes the TLM and has said beautiful things about it. Heck, I don’t care if I have to wait many more years, as long as I have hope.![]()
