Hi everyone,
So while I’ve been a confirmed Catholic for a little over four years, I am relatively new to novenas. I picked up a St. Jude novena at a shrine but on there it said that you are supposed to make 81 copies and leave 9 in church each day of the novena. However I’ve also been told by another Catholic that it’s not appropriate to pray a novena unless there is a statue of the respective saint in the church and that the same applies at home. Please advise.

I don’t believe either are right. You do not need to leave 81 copies for your prayer to be heard. That is like a superstition.

We pray novenas all the time without statues at home and on CAF. If you have a particular devotion and like having a statue, nothing wrong with that either. But not necessary.

Thank you, the only reason I asked about the 81 copies is because those were the written instructions on the Novena sheet but I appreciate you for clarifying. I don’t believe 81 copies is necessary either but I’m glad I got a second opinion to make sure. Thank you!

There are plenty of novenas that do not even ask for anything like that. Are you familiar with praymorenovenas.com? Check it out. A very easy way to pray novenas!
