Novenas can actually be any number of repeated days. They do not have to be nine days. The St. Andrew Christmas Novena, for example, is 25 days long and involves repeating a prayer 15 times a day.

Yes, I had 4 years of Latin and I’m aware of that.

However, the current use of the word “Novena” in Catholic devotions does not require that the prayer be in a set of nine.
An example going on right now is the traditional so-called “St. Andrew Christmas Novena”. It is 25 days long, as I said above.
There is also a 30-day St. Joseph Novena to be said before or after his feast day.
And there are “perpetual novenas” that are just prayers said daily for an indefinite period of time.
