I’ve been having plantar fasciitis for almost a year now, and nothing in eastern or western medicine seems to help. I am curious if there is a novena to Raphael to ask for healing. How does one pray a novena anyway? I am interested in the Catholic faith, and I’m trying to learn more about prayer.

I have that too and there is a type of cast that you can buy and it’s worn when you go to bed. I bought a couple from Publix supermarket and they work pretty good. Also you need to buy shoes or sneakers that have good arch support. The most important thing is to do stretching exercises for the calf in the morning when you first get up and I do it throughout the day if I feel it coming on again and it is getting less and less.
I have the paper on how to do the streches and if you wear sneakers my foot doctor gave me a list of sneakers that give good support, if you can bend your sneaker in half in the middle, then that’s bad support. I have sketchers which are the worst for your feet. If you want I can email the exercises and the list.

Yes, I have the Strassburg night sock, an orthotic, and I’ve tried acupuncture and herbal medicine. Not too much improvement from anything really. Just really frustrated, because the pain is so stubborn. The past year has been pretty bad for my health in general too.

I don’t know about a novena but there is a Chaplet of Saint Raphael the Archangel. I pray it every day. He’s the patron saint for those in the health professions.

You could go on Amazon or various Catholic Gift stores and pick one up. I can’t tell how many times He has come to my aid and obtained from Almighty God the graces that I needed.
Read the Book of Tobias in the O.T. In the N.T., John 5:1-4 refers to the pool at Bethesda, where the multitude of the infirm lay awaiting the moving of the water, for “an angel of the Lord descended at certain times into the pond; and the water was moved. And he that went down first into the pond after the motion of the water was made whole of whatsoever infirmity he lay under”. Because of the healing role assigned to Raphael, this particular angel is generally associated with the archangel.

A Novena is a nine days’ private or public devotion in the Catholic Church to obtain special graces and is simply the act of reciting a number of fixed devotional prayers for each of the nine days.
Here is a link that provides such novena prayers to the Archangel Raphael which is easy to follow, God bless.

Do I need to use candles? I’m guessing it’s not absolutely necesssary, but if I do use them, should I get them blessed first? I read that candles for novenas are lit for nine days. It can’t be possible that a single candle would last that long. Does it just mean to light it during the prayer, then blow it out, and light it again the next day?

Thank you!

It would be most appropriate to use a blessed candle because it is a symbol of Christ Who is the Light of the world and you can blow it out after you have completed each daily novena prayer/prayers.
As candles come in all sizes here is a link with a picture of some candles which would be around the proper size for you: totallycatholic.com/product.php?id=1818
These are around 4inches high and you can obtain one from any Catholic repository,or have some one get one for you.
God bless.
