hello everybody. I am very interested in praying the novena to the sacret heart of Jesus but I have been told conflicting rules about it.
I was told the novena must be said 9 times consecutively each day for 9 days. Then I was told only for 3days. Then I was told it needs to be said once a day and not 9times. I was also told to make 81 copies of the Novena and put 9 copies every day i say the novena. Is that really true?

I am really confused. Any (name removed by moderator)ut will greatly help.

Thanks

Please do not make 81 copies and leave them around the church. I spend a great deal of time looking for those novenas all over the church so I can throw them out.

The novena prayer is fine and say it for as many times as you would like for as long as you like, but the “rule” to leave copies in the church in order to have your prayer answered is pure superstition and goes against what the Catholic Church teaches about prayer.

As the other poster has said this is superstitious nonsense and would be a grave sin. Its essentially the chain letter.

If you take the actual meaning of the word “Novena” then you are only bound to say the prayer for nine days - although there are three-day ‘novenas’, plus you could make a perpetual novena by praying it every day! As other posters have said, disregard the instruction to photocopy the prayer - this is superstitious. However I would also be wary when it is said that such a prayer must be said six times or nine times per day - say it as often as you feel is needed or appropriate. If your prayer is sincere the first time round you can be sure that God has heard it and is working on your request!

First, in agreement with previous posters - anything telling you to make copies and pass on - just pass completely on the suggestion. A novena is a prayer that YOU say.

Regarding rules about a novena, sometimes at the bottom of the prayer card (if novena is on one), you’ll find who it came from (i.e. a monastery, priestly order, etc.) If in doubt, and you can’t find accurate info, contact the order who printed / distributed the prayer card. They will clarify for you.

And say a prayer for us, too, please?

A novena found on EWTN’s website. This one seems to be that you would recite the whole prayer every day for 9 days (as a PP noted, a novena proper lasts 9 days).
This one has a different reading and prayer for each day, also 9 days. It’s from the Society of the Divine Word, a group in full communion and good standing with the Church.
God bless
