I have been friends with a particular girl for a while now and I have been attracted to her for as long as I’ve known her. I have now begun pursuing a possible romantic relationship with her.

I want to pray a novena for our relationship; so I’m curious, who are some good saints to pray novenas to for relationships, love, etc?

I’ve heard people say they prayed to Sts. Ann and Joachim (or just St. Ann).

My husband and I prayed to St. Joseph and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

St. Anthony is another saint I’ve heard people pray to for relationships, but I think that is done for help in finding a spouse and not particularly a relationship that’s already begun/being pursued. St. Anthony is a big helper regardless of the situation though so he’s a safe bet no matter what.

Sts. Louis and Zelie Martin would be a good choice too I think. They are newly canonized and the first married couple canonized together.

St. Raphael! I always pray to him. (Or with him, rather). He helped Tobit find a suitable wife so obviously he must be a helper with relationships! 🙂

I’ve heard that St. Rafael the Archangel is a good one to pray to if you are looking for a spouse. If it’s something that you want really bad St. Jude is always A-list.

I prayed a novena to Our Lady Undoer of Knots right before my fiance and I went on our first date.

Nice tips.

Relationships came up in two sermons last weekend. One mentioned Lectio Divina (scripture meditation), and the other touched on initiative and communication: “ask her out”.

I have noticed that in the absence of communication, people often fill in the blanks with a guess that is usually wrong such as “he doesn’t like me”, “I am being judged”, and that is exasperating.

So definitely clearly signal your intentions, make sure she is always first, and don’t try to “change her”.

I am not in any kind of romantic pursuit other than my wife, but I still have difficulty interpreting indirect signals. I recently noticed a possible disagreement between two people I hold in high esteem, but I am not sure how to communicate that they are both people I look up to, and would love to work with some day, if I am ever able to break into that industry.

I am working on that. However, if my plan does not work out I would be thrilled to assist with someone else’s endeavor, especially when people work together as my experience is that seeking change alone, rarely works, and diversity can be very powerful when combined.

So if you like this girl, getting help from above is great, but do your part as well.

One other recent sermon suggested giving issues to God that you can’t solve on your own. So if you do your best and it is not enough, realize things often work out down the road.

Good luck.
