It seems that there are a few ways to pray a novena that includes the mysteries of the Rosary. I know what I do, and why; but I’m interested in what others do and why.

When you pray a novena, how do you (yourself) pray the mysteries? Do you pray the Joyful one day, the Sorrowful the next, then the Glorious, and then repeat that cycle three times? Do you pray the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious and repeat until the end of the novena, even though you end up not finishing a complete “cycle”? Do you have some other method? Why do you do what you do?

Thanks for your replies!

Personally, I pray just the original three mysteries when I pray a novena. It seems to me that three sets of three mysteries is more “perfect” if you go by the fact that the number three represents the Trinity.

Then again, when I pray the Rosary every day as normal, I like to include the Luminous mysteries because they add to my personal devotion.

There are many different Novenas. I had a friend that prayed a novena that was said once an hour.

As to the rosary, I say a rosary which is all of the mysteries. Mostly because I didn’t like when Pope John Paul said which mystery should be said on which day. I know we don’t have to follow his suggestions but I felt guilty not following it. I don’t know why he didn’t just put the Luminous on Sunday instead of the confusion of moving so many days. 🤷
