Do you know where I can find an altar missal for the Novus Ordo that has both Latin and English? My priest would like to incorporate more Latin into the Novus Ordo Masses that he celebrates, but he is not confident enough in his Latin proficiency to celebrate from memory. I cannot find any Novus Ordo missals with Latin. To make the search more interesting, the English must also be the third edition translation (the current translation used). I offered to find and purchase such a missal for my priest but am having no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There aren’t any altar missals in both languages, it’s going to be one or the other. But one possible solution is the large print version of the Daily Roman Missal published by Midwest Theological Forum. It has the ordinary of the Mass in both languages. I use it as a travel Missal.

Father (or anyone who knows) -
I haven’t looked at our altar Missal much since it was purchased 8-ish years ago, but I have a copy of the old Sacramentary - it contains the English and Latin both, though not side-by-side. Does the Missal not have this? Might entail some additional page turning, but could save some money and get the job done…?

Traditionally altar missals are printed in the language used at Mass. If it’s Latin, then the altar missal is in Latin, if it’s in the vernacular, then it’s printed in the vernacular.

You typically only find the hand missals with both languages in them.

Do you know of an altar missal for the Novus Ordo in Latin? I can only find it in English and only the Extraordinary Form in Latin.

There is a Latin edition of the Roman Missal at https://www.vaticanum.com/en/Missale-Romanum-Editio-Typica-Tertia-Emendata-2008-half-calf-edition

The Catholic Truth Society edition of the Roman Missal used in Australia has Latin for the Holy, Holy, the Our Father, and the Lamb of God. (ISBN 9781860827297 ).

The book “Handbook of Prayers” has the entire Order of Mass (including the Prefaces and Eucharistic Prayers) in Latin and English. It also has the “Thanksgiving After Mass” prayers from the Roman Missal in Latin and English. The ISBN is 9781860828140. At www.amazon.com it is $14 for the soft cover, $32.93 for the hardcover.

Yah I don’t know of any that has both. This would be difficult because they would have to pick and choose which parts to have in both languages. MTF makes a Latin OF Missal for altars. It makes a daily missal for laity which incorporates Latin and English, but not in an altar size.

OP. Contact your diocese and ask where to get the proper books and how other parishes are doing it.

The Latin Missal (2002 edition) can be downloaded as a pdf here: https://media.musicasacra.com/books/latin_missal2002.pdf
It is possible to copy and paste into a word processor document.
I suggest your priest copies the parts he wants to say in Latin and inserts them in his altar Missal.
Alternatively, you can use Universalis.

I don’t know what country you are in, but have you tried contacting catholic universities or seminaries?
Our seminary has just sold a lot of old books to raise funds, of course I’ve no idea which books and am likely in a different country to you but it may be that you’d have more luck finding such old books in universities or seminaries. Our seminarians were telling us about all the old books which used to be in display in their library on my last visit and they seemed genuinely remorseful to have sold them, though needs must.
