I agree with the people who have said Cardinal Arinze. He just seems so human but doesn’t fail to tell it like it is. He always manages to make me laugh a bit in his talks on the faith. Fr. Larry Richards is also a very dynamic speaker. His CD on Confession is great.

i have also heard Fr Groeschel speak and he makes no bones about telling the truth! He is truly gifted with the charism of preaching…although he is becoming quite frail!
My pastor has also the very same charism as Fr John Corapi…and he is just about liked like him also. We had one incidence where a satanic group painted blood on the church;s door as well as the rectory!

Father Larry Richards maybe?I read that Fr. Corapi will retire from apostolic preaching in 2007.
I think that Fr. Corapi effectively filled the same role in this generation that Bishop Fulton Sheen filled for a previous generation.
Is there an up-and-coming Catholic preacher in the media with inter/national reach and stature?

I’m surprised you all are missing the point…
We Catholics didn’t develop Fr. Corapi.
We Catholics didn’t develop Archbishop Sheen.
We Catholics didn’t develop Fr. Larry Richards…
or any other speaker who represents Catholicism profoundly, with authority and charisma or whatever style reaches to the heart of the masses…
It is soley the gifts of the Holy Spirit and God’s calling for those leaders.
Who is the heir apparent? The Holy Spirit will reveal that person in His time, as always. I think we all need to be very careful about seeking someone to replace any of God’s chosen (including Sr. Angelica)…if we press our ‘favorites’ or campaign on their behalf then we (humans) teeter on the verge of imposing our collective will instead of allowing God to reveal His. Trust that God will continue to speak to us through others.

You are right. I guess I didn’t read real closely and see the words “developing”. I guess I just looked at it as who as a Priest out there that can be the next great voice for our faith. Sure there doesn’t have to be only one and it is not us who are developing them. I listed Fr. Larry Richards has I have heard a few of his talks and they are amazing. If anyone hasn’t heard any of his stuff I strongly recommend doing so. Listen to “The Truth” first followed by “The Mass Explained” and then “Confession”. Outstanding stuff.

Ya, but this style of preaching is so desperately needed in this modern era! Too many priests today are tickling the ears of their listeners, but Father Corapi would have nothing to do with it. The god today is Mr. Politically Correct, and Fr. Corapi exposed him well. If Sheen were alive today, I have a feeling his preaching style might be a little different, while still maintaining his incomparable charisma.

Fr. Brian Malady is really great. His series, “The Horizion of Being” is available for free at the EWTN multimedia radio archive. His course, “Nature and Grace”, available at International Catholic University is unique in the world. While you’re at the International Catholic University website, pick up the video course, The Natural Law, What it is and Why We Need It, by Charles Rice. It can change ones perspective big time, as he crushes Secularism, Relativism, and Individualism. The video course, “Introduction to Thomas Aquinas”, by Ralph McInerny is a winner.

Fr. Corapi is a man for all seasons. As was Bishop Sheen. Both are well loved and Fr. Corapi will be sorely missed. Forget Milton Berle, lol, there were many popular “worldly” celebrities who may well not fit into heaven as a camel through the eye of a needle who were on t.v. during Bishop Sheen’s period of televised teachings. I hope we will see Fr. Corapi on EWTN and radio, does anybody know if he will retire from those venues as well?

I love Father Corapi. I have been listening to his “Catechism” series on my iPod for the past month as I drive around. And I’m sure that, even if he “retires”, he will continue to be a fixture on EWTN “in syndication” as they say for a long, long time.
But as to a successor, there is IMO only one contender.
Father Robert Barron of the archdiocese of Chicago.
His “Word on Fire” podcast (subscribe here → wordonfire.org/) is the highlight of my week.
“Life is Worth Living” was a huge milestone in the use of popular media to reach Catholic and non-Catholic culture alike. It worked (and still works!) because of the enormous gifts of grace poured out on Archbishop (soon to be Saint, I pray) Fulton Sheen.
Father Barron has some of those same gifts. If you haven’t heard him yet, go now. Right now.

Scaron, you are so right - Father Barron is one of the best! His weekly homilies are just amazing. I listen to his homilies several times, and I learn something new each time I listen.
I’ve gone to hear him in person, and he is a terrific, inspiring speaker.
He has written a number of books, and I’ve read a couple of them - I’m reading the third one right now. Not only a great speaker, he is a really fine writer too. This man is truly a gift. He has had a great impact on my spiritual life.
