What I said was that while no one should say that their formula used wasn’t excellent, it could have just been that they didn’t always have the purest sources to work with.
I know you didn’t; I was deliberately twisting your wording because I was in a “Douay-Rheims” mood at the time.
As you can see from some of my other postings, I get frustrated with, and distrustful of, some modern (mis)translations, to the point where I just want to bury my head in the sand on anything other than the D-R. But it’s not the critical editions of the Hebrew and Greek that I’m concerned about; it’s how the various translation teams choose to render them into English. I had thought the translators of the RSV had done this better than those of the NAB or JB/NJB, but, as you know from our other thread, it needs some work as well. And now, with all the variants of late, the “real” RSV-CE is not even easy to identify.
