ok so i am a 16 yr old girl.i’ll tell you the story before i ask a question.

i have been best friends with this girl melissa since freshman year of high school. one day that summer after freshmen year, we went to the pool together. when we got back to her house we were alone and we both took showers so we were totally naked in front of each other. after her shower she never put her clothes back on and when i asked why she said she always takes her clothes off when no one is around and she takes pictures of herself naked, never to be sexual but for art. she said it makes her feel good and feel beautiful. she showed me how she did it.

so basically, ever since then me and her love to take naked pics togehter. but we NEVER have done anything sexual with each other. we take them as a form of art and we are proud of our bodies. we think it is amazing how God created the female body. we have never sent them to anybody. we have thousands of nude pictures. we always keep them hidden on our computers so no one can see them.

lately i hav been wondering if this is a sin or not. a lot of our pics are of the two of us together and sometimes we touch each other in them but we never mean it to be sexual. most are of us posing separetly for art.

even when we are not taking pictures, whenever we are alone we take our clothes off and do normal stuff like talk, watch movies, and stuff but we are naked.

so i am wondering is it a sin that we are so comfortable being naked around each other and that we take pics of it. we have never done anything sexual…is this a sin?

I’m just going to wait for the moderators to terminate this thread and make one comment. Yes it is, including even posting a thread about it.

There is a great danger in doing stuff like this. Even if you are, as you say, not doing anything sexual, you are not doing anything to promote purity or chastity. If it is not a sin, it is a horrible occasion of sin because it can lead to other things even if you did not “mean to do it.” The prince of darkness (satan) often confuses us and lies to us telling us that we are doing nothing wrong when we very well are. I encourage you to end this “friendship” and destroy all the pictures you have. Even if you go to great lengths to hide them from others, they can still be discovered and lead one into sin through their viewing.

You need to make a firm resolve to live a pure life in Christ. Look to the Holy Family as your model for hope if you need a model. I can assure you that Our Lady and St. Joseph did not walk around or model naked, yet they were not ashamed. They were humble. Read the Bible and develop a good prayer life. They are very helpful in forming a good conscience rooted in the Lord.

I do not mean to chastise you or anything, but I want to make clear that I have gone down a similar path as you, even when I didn’t mean to do anything wrong. Like I said, satan is the prince of lies and he lied to me. I made a firm resolve never to walk that lonely path again.

I will be praying for you. God bless. Let the Spirit be your guide.

thank you daughterofMary that is the answer i wanted. sry to prodigalson if it wasnt appropriate to post here. i will pray for purity.

I will pray for you that you are able to end the friendship and get back on the path to holy purity. God bless you. 🙂

Like others have said this is at the very least an occasion of sin because it opens one to more scandelous opportunities plus my guess is this girl is not the most spiritual and may lead you to other sins with this (suggestive poses, masturbation, ect) even if that has not occured up to this point. Also now with these photos out there, they could fall into others hands and lead others to sin through lust. Even though the JPII tells us to celebrate the beauty of the human body, we are weak and need to be careful in the ways we do display such things (such as nude art or sculptures) so the context of it truly celebrates it and not is a mere curiousity that opens itself to other sins. I would encourage you as others have said to find friends that will help you grow in your relationship with God, because He can help you fully appreciate your beauty; not a friend who encourages nude photos.

And what are you going to do if one of those pictures end up on Facebook or some gay porn site? Did you ever think of that? You think that can’t happen?

Touching each other in those pics are inappropriate and yes, the pictures are a sin against chastity. It’s time to get your head together and drop her as a so-called friend.

Being naked is not a sin. But when you combine all of the above there is a good chance that this is not all for “art”. Why do the two of you need to be naked? And these thousands of pictures that are taken for “art”, who will be seeing this “artwork”? No, you girls need to keep your clothes on and find another “hobby”, if you will. There are plenty of comfortable pajamas that you can wear and you’ve already seen enough of each other to where you can stop “admiring” your bodies and visit and watch T.V. like the many others of us who wear clothes. Any two girls who take thousands of pictures of themsleves naked become suspect and that could be sinful. If in doubt, get to confession… teachccd

Okay, I think this is not a good thing for you. Hopefully I will explain my reasons well. I am trying to give you the benefit of my experience.

Where were your friend’s parents? If her mom and dad were there would you be comfortable behaving in this way? If your mom or dad were there would you have done it?
and we both took showers so we were totally naked in front of each other. after her shower she never put her clothes back on and when i asked why she said she always takes her clothes off when no one is around
“When no one is around…” Well, you were around. So she is not alone and someone else is around. Do you know if you are the only person who has been around when “…no one is around…” ?
and she takes pictures of herself naked, never to be sexual but for art. she said it makes her feel good and feel beautiful. she showed me how she did it.
Art? This leads to many questions. Art is made to be shown and communicate ideas. When is this art going to be shown? I am not joking or being funny here. Do you have any control over the photos? If the answer is ‘no’ then I am sorry.
so basically, ever since then me and her love to take naked pics togehter. but we NEVER have done anything sexual with each other. we take them as a form of art and we are proud of our bodies.
If the photos are art, but they are not going to be displayed then why take any photos at all?
we think it is amazing how God created the female body. we have never sent them to anybody. we have thousands of nude pictures. we always keep them hidden on our computers so no one can see them.
You have never sent them to anyone, but you have no control what other people do - now or on some future day.
lately i hav been wondering if this is a sin or not. a lot of our pics are of the two of us together and sometimes we touch each other in them but we never mean it to be sexual. most are of us posing separetly for art.

What is being communicated? If I were a young man and you were my perspective bride I would not want to see what is being communicated. What I am getting at is that I would want you to save that kind of special moment for me.

This is what you should be doing with your future husband. I am assuming that you intend to get married some day? If you are I would ask you to ponder the fact that your future husband is some where out there in the world right now. Would you want him to posing nude with a friend and touching his friend in a non sexual way just as you have done with your friend?
so i am wondering is it a sin that we are so comfortable being naked around each other and that we take pics of it. we have never done anything sexual…is this a sin?
So, I think the actions you have described go against the virtues of chastity and humility.

I wish you well and please consider withdrawing from participation in these ‘art’ photos.

May God bless you

thanks for your answers everyone. i talked to my friend today and explained that i am concerned with the morality of it and i don’t want to take pictures anymore. we have great trust for each other so she respects my wishes. i dont know if she will keep doing it herself but i will not do it anymore.

but i also have another question. i will not take any more pictures but is it immoral for us to continue to be naked around each other? when we are just hanging out together, doing normal stuff like talking and watching movies, we never wear clothes. we like doing that because it strengthens our friendship to know we can trust each other completely and feel comfortable even when we are totally exposed and vulnerable.

is this sinful too?

Wow you guys are acting like her friend has just murdered Mary. The general consensus that i see is that you shouldn’t do it because of what might happen when it hasn’t happened yet right. And that there is nothing wrong with being naked itself. If so than there is nothing wrong…yet? She obviously good friends with this girl, and not just going to throw away her friendship like that. There intentions seem to be pure. I’m seeing a nee-jerk reaction to this subject with out looking at it subjectively.

FYI, I’m a 16 year old guy (now that Ive said that your all going to throw what I said out the door 😦 , oh well)

I do not believe anyone is making such rash reactions. Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen in the future. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I hope that all of us here are trying to protect her from falling into sin. She asked for our opinion and it was given, but if one wants to see what the Church has to say, they should ask a priest or consult the Catechism. God bless. 🙂

Just a question:

Why do you feel the need to be “totally exposed and vulnerable” around your friend? Can’t you feel comfortable fully clothed?

I’m glad that your friend respects your wishes and that you want to be pure, but I’m a little confused as to why you feel you have to be naked around your friend. It has not become scandalous yet, but what if the curiosity leads to other things? 🤷

I advise you to seek the council of a priest on this matter and see what he says. Being naked is not a sin, but it can be an occasion of sin, which the Church teaches us to avoid, lest we be tempted. Speaking to your priest about whether or not this can be an occasion of sin for you is important. God bless.

As another teenage girl I think it is great that you have the self-esteem to be that comfortable with your body. I also think it is great that you are concerned about the morality of it in a world that tells you there’s nothing wrong. It is great that you have decided to stop taking pictures.

I can understand that being naked around your friend makes you feel good. My best friends and I are occassionally naked around each other – for example showering and getting dressed to go out – but we are completely comfortable, and it makes you feel that you can trust your friends completely.

But I don’t see why it is so important to be naked around your friend ALL the time. Our hormones are raging wild and you could start to feel tempted towards her – even if you are completely straight – and do something you will regret.

It seems like you trust your friend a lot. And I don’t think it’s evil or sinful to be naked around her all the time. But be careful because it can be very, very dangerous.

Since there isn’t a set book of rules of don’t about gray areas, what is the boundary between what we can handle and what we can’t? Is it different for different people?

I think we are, as it’s put elsewhere, “posting in a troll thread”. If not, my apologies. Personally I think the only persons who are allowed to see a person naked in ordinary circumstances would be his/her parents, same-sex siblings, his/her spouse, and medical practitioners.

Frankly it is NOT normal to be naked all the time you are around each other and even less normal that you touch each other in this situation. This is an invitation to sin.
I think you are deluding yourself by saying this is for art. Its not. Its an excuse to continue doing it.
In my opinion you should stop this immediately and if that might upset your friend, too bad.

Hi.

I wanted to let you know that you are being incredibly naive if you believe that the “thousands” of nude pictures of your self will never be seen.

Do you know who Vanessa Williams is? In 1983 she became the first African American Miss America. A few years prior, she had posed for some nude pictures with a photographer. He released the pictures, and Vanessa had to give up her title of Miss America.

Those were the days before digital cameras, when photographs were on film, and required more effort to reproduce.

Also, some 16 year old girls can be incredibly spiteful. Are you so sure that your friend won’t one day turn on you and post the pictures somewhere?

Do you also know that some girls have been prosecuted for child porn for “sexting” pictures of themselves.?

You need to destroy these pics. But be warned, there could already by copies of them that you don’t know of.

Imagine in the future your future husband comes across them 😦

Finally, your friend seems a manipulative, and seems to be pressuring you to do something you feel is wrong. I can’t understand sitting around watching movies in the buff. Would you feel proud telling your mom this?

I think after the age of puberty parents should not see their children naked; parents need to foster a sense of decency, modesty and self-respect, and that starts with respecting the child’s privacy and dignity as their body matures.

Medical practitioners have nearly zero real need to see a person nude. Most these days, with examining room gowns or surgical drapes only see what they need to see, and when a male doctor examines a female patient these days, invariably there’s a female nurse in the room.

But if all nudity outside of these contexts is bad, please don’t go visit the Sistine Chapel!!! You may be shocked at the frescoes…
