Did anyone watch Desperate Housewives last night? I know it probably isn’t the best show to watch but I enjoy watching it. I can relate to being a desperate wife sometimes . . .

Last night they introduced a new character - a nun who met Carlos in prison ministry. This nun seems to be determined to break up Carlos and Gabrielle’s marriage! She even says to Gabrielle, “Some marriages are meant to be annulled”. :tsktsk:

The secularism of shows sometimes bothers me, but now they are taking a Catholic religion and portraying it poorly – which seems to me to be an attack on the faith (versus just ignoring the faith). I know there are bad nuns in the world, but this is the only religious character on the show and seems like in in-balanced reflection of most religious out there.

What do you think? :hmmm:

**I knew this would be posted here today when I saw it last night!😛 **

I told my dh the minute Gabriel looked out the door window at “Sister Mary Hotpants” next to the car that that nun wasn’t a good one. A nun wouldn’t be picking up men, married or otheriwse, alone and even though many relgious don’t wear their garb outside the church grounds (a shame, imo) - most do still wear it to Mass.

I love how Gabriel handled it though! (Well not the seduction part. Goodness that woman is … ummm … bold.:o ) My dh says it’s about time Gabriel figured out that she’s willing to fight for more than Carlo’s checkbook. We think she really does love her husband and he loves her - they’re just seriously messed up.

How knows what’ll happen next? Although that little tease about the next show makes me nervous…
Did he file for annulment? Does he go off to join the church in some way? A retreat? What’s Gaby going to do about that nun? WHAT?!😃 How knows? Maybe Carlos will find he loves his trophy wife, the nun will get the boot or heavenly enlightenment, and Gaby will be the one shocked to find herself drawn to Mass!

I was hopeful when I watched this and saw that Carlos wanted to improve his spiriual life and then immediately appalled when they introduced the nun. I think it’s terrible, but then again, I’m to blame for watching it!! :o

Wow. I came away from that episode with completely different feelings. I loved the way they portrayed Carlos and his faith. To me, it seemed like the nun and his wife are going to be playing the devil, trying to pull Carlos away from the Church, but his character will continue to grow in faith instead.

I think I am in agreement. At first I was thinking, “how dare they”, then I remembered what show I was watching - famous for it’s wild twists just when you think you have it figured out. I think this will play out far differently then we think.

There are a lot of twists. Although that annulment statement was pretty bold and I’m not sure if it was theologically correct. I guess we’ll have to stay tuned . . .

You think both the nun and the wife are going to be playing the devil? Isn’t it sacrilegious to have a nun play the devil?

What order was she from? Shouldn’t her superiors do something about it? Could it be a possiblilty, she isn’t really a nun, or she is a former nun out to give the church a bad name?

As always, the IMDB comes through:
imdb.com/name/nm1561547/

She’s just an actress.
Yours in Christ,

The annulment statement *is *incorrect.

But that doesn’t surprise me. I’ve heard *real-life * nuns say stoopider things, so why not?

The scarier part of the episode for me is that the character looks like a nun I know. Thankfully, the physical seems to be where that resemblence ends. 😉

desperately,

I shouldn’t have said “play the devil.” I just meant that their characters are going to be trying to tempt him into sin or challenge his faith.

Too true :rotfl:

I saw this episode last Sunday, and the first thing I thought to myself was, it’s a sure thing that this will be discussed on the Catholic Answers forum. I have not idea what they are going to do with this part of the story, but I will definitely be watching to find out.

I continue to be amazed at the consequences they show for the behavior that happens on this show. I thought the scene showing sex at the office was a little sordid for my tastes. However, as a result of this, the abusive boss has lost her job, several other people lost their jobs, and the owner is getting sued. Last but not least, Lynette, the “Desperate Housewife” who is the mother of four children is now Vice President of the company.

I think I like this show because it shows the characters as a mixture of good and evil.

Okay, so what did you think about Sunday’s episode? I’m liking this nun less and less . . .

as episodes go, this to me was a bit of a dud. The nun is still out on my discernment list. I just don’t know.

Anyone else? And what about Bree letting George die?

I thought it was stupid that Bree let George die. Her finger prints are all over that hotel room.

On the question of Bree . . . if she hadn’t lied about calling the ambulance, I think she might have been in the clear. If I found out someone had murdered my husband, I wouldn’t hunt them down BUT if they were dying in front of me, would I save them . . . :hmmm:

(I know that is probably wrong of me, but honestly, how could you save someone like that?)

I’m also worried about this new gay son development. Perhaps I wasn’t watching close enough, but this is the first time I realized the son is suppose to be gay. E! News reported yesterday that the creator of the show just received an achievement award for his support of “gay youth”. I’m worried about how they are going to portray the homosexual theme and any intolerance of homosexuality.

Good point. She should have called the police after he died and pretended like she got there too late. That would explain away the evidence . . .

Andrew was revealed to be Justin’s special friend after Zach/Dana’s pool party. Andrew told his parents he was gay when they visited him at the boot camp they shipped him off to. After they brought him home from camp, Bree invited their ministe over for dinner, much to Andrew’s displeasure.

But I only watched the first 25 minutes of this weeks episode, and then switched to the Pope movie. Football delay.
