Hey everyone,
I went on a Nun Run Friday and Saturday, and it was amazing. We went to a Franciscan convent, worked with Missionaries of Charity in a soup kitchen, talked with cloistered Poor Clares, and visited a Benedictine monastery. I’m even more confused about my vocation now, but it really got me thinking about what I’d look for if I do decide to look into religious life. It was also a lot of fun, and I got to know some of the women who went with me better.

great event what diocese? sounds fantastic, hope it helps you in your discernment

A few years ago, a group of us went to a major metro city for a “Church Run.” We visited various churches in a variety of settings. It was, for us, an eye-opener in so many ways. We were grateful to experience first-hand the ministry of the Gospel to the “rich-and-famous,” as well as the poorest of the poor.

Though you indicate added confusion at this point, may the “Nun Run” be for you a blessing to direct your steps. 🙂

It was in the diocese of Peoria.

I think it will help with my discernment. The main reason I feel more confused now than I did before is that I didn’t know before how many questions I would have to ask. I hadn’t realized what it’s really like to live in a community like that. I also realized that God has to do a lot of work in me if He wants to prepare me for this, because I’m definitely far too self-centered right now to live comfortably in a community, without possessions of my own and with much less independence than I have now.

Your post made me smile! I remember the informal “nun run” I took with several friends in college. It was an incredible experience just to go through parts of their daily life with them, and to see the sisters as real, full of fun and joy people. May God bless and guide you in your discernment!

Thanks! It was awesome to pray with them and to learn more about how they live. I especially liked hearing them talk about how they discerned their callings.

Wow,…what a fun thing to do. In another thread I read about people visiting and bringing the nuns some goodies.

It sounds like something I would love to do and I’m thinking of getting a group together to do just that.
