If you spot a nun roaming the red carpet during the Oscar telecast Feb. 26, don’t adjust your set.

Interesting article. I was a big Dolores Hart fan. God Bless her.

She was a speaker at our parishes Lenten symposium a few years ago.

Great speaker (as you can imagine)

We watcher her in “Francis of Assisi”, where she played St. Clare, just before the symposium, so the kids would be familar with her.

Mother Hart is still a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and is the only nun to be an Oscar-voting member. She votes on all the films and the human nominees.

I don’t get it. This is a cloistered nun. What business does she have watching films that may be rate X? What business does she have mixing in show business? Why is she allowed to keep her ties to her past? Is this a New Age order?

No, her Benedictine order wears a full habit and chants the Office in Latin.

As I mentioned earlier, she spoke at our Parishes Lenten Symposium. Cardinal Arinze was the keynote speaker actually ( and this year, Cardinal Burke will be the keynote 👍)

Where and how she is allowed to interact outside of her monastery is a function of her superior and her bishop.

If they see value in having her vote on films for Academy awards, I cannot find fault in that. In fact, I would like to see many more practicing Catholics having a say in declaring a film to be “Best Picture”

I hope that the documentary she’s in gets the Oscar. Wouldn’t it be cool if it happened, and she came onstage dressed in her full Benedictine habit and veil? That would make some of today’s ‘actresses’ squirm in their immodest ‘dresses’!

She’s the Prioress at Regina Laudis Abbey-the second in command to the Mother Abbess. So I guess she can go to places as long as she has permission from her Abbess.

I remember her as St. Clare in ‘Francis of Assisi’. She was wonderful! There’s a story about her having an audience with Blessed Pope John XXIII while they were filming it in Italy. The Holy Father somehow knew about the making of the movie, and he kept calling Dolores ‘Chiara’ (Clare). She gently tried to correct him, but he kept calling her ‘Chiara’! 😃

And if the documentary gets the Oscar, then there will be more publicity for Regina Laudis, and consequently more donations to get their buildings up to date!

What is a New Age order? Be specific.

If she were not allowed to participate as she does, she would have been advised not to. She is obliged to obey her superiors, not to obey you.

Among the Holywood stars walking the red carpet at this year’s Oscars, will be this 73 year old Benedictine nun. She now goes by the name Mother Dolores and she belongs to the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut. But long before she was known as Dolores Hart, a rising young actress.
