Whether it is true or not, there are numerous state run orphanages throughout the UK, with many ‘stories’ of people being abused, mostly sexually, over the years. Many stories involve influential figures and others carrying out the abuse - yet these stories never lead anywhere, i.e. there is no, or little, investigation, or they are shelved.

So a Catholic run orphanage, run in the '50/60/70’s, was the only orphanage in Scotland where children faced abuse, and the people accused are now facing prosecution - 40-50 yrs later!

The vitriol against the Catholic Church increases weekly. Of course, the child sex abuse scandals opened the door to allow this to hapen, with few questions asked.

we have an institution here, run by nuns with a resident priest, that was subject to all sorts of horrendous abuse of girls, back in the 60s and 70s.

there is no vitriol against the church, this happened, here, the survivors now have a voice. the resident priest is in jail and won’t be out anytime soon.
this story led to criminal convictions and national redress for the survivors and ensuring it never ever happens again

the nuns are all deceased.

I cannot recall any abuse cases being prosecuted, for victims,from state/civil/non-catholic orphanages, in Australia and the UK, in this time period and the personnel prosecuted/arrested.

Obviously, abuse of children in orphanages is horrific and sadistic, however abuse was definitely not only carried out in Catholic operated institutions.

An example of how children were treated, by the UK government, at this time period was acknowledgement and an ‘apology’ given, by the UK, to over 130,000 children who were shipped overseas - and a paltry 6 million allocated for relocation, etc.

Clifford Walsh stands in the port of Fremantle he is now 72. Fremantle is where, in 1954, aged nine, he stepped off the ship from London, looking for the sheep he’d been told outnumbered people in Australia 100 to one.

He ended up at the Catholic institution known at one point as Bindoon Boys Town is now notorious. Based around an imposing stone mansion in the Australian countryside, 49 miles north of Perth, are buildings Walsh and his fellow child migrants were forced to build, barefoot, starting work the day after they arrived.

As did Brown, the Australian government ‘apologised’ for the abuse shown to these children, and that was it.

Either way, it seems that the UK and other governments leave civilly/government run abuse institutions aside, which would house the majority of orphans, for subsequent prosecutions of personnel running same - as they are not going to dole out the compensation. Needless to say, by only highlighting and prosecuting cases from catholic run institutions assists with the narrative of continually bashing the CC.

Also, a report that was made up, at the time and never acted upon, of blacklisted institutions indicates most were non-Catholic run institutions.
