DF and I are getting married on the Feast of OL Fatima.

Many of our attendees are non-Catholic or are fallen away Catholics, so I am creating a full misselette for those attending/assisting at the Mass.

I am wondering if the Creed is usually recited at the Nuptial Mass, and if the Gloria is sung.

Thanks in advance, y’all!

The profession of faith is mandatory on Sunday and Solemnities, and optional other times.

Statement from the USCCB Committee on Divine Worship:
“In the Roman Missal, Third Edition, the rubrics call for the Gloria more frequently than before.
[Most Ritual Masses now] prescribe the Gloria. These Masses are all treated as if they were Feasts, and the Gloria is used for them even when celebrated during Advent or Lent. Thus, for example, Masses for Confirmation, Holy Orders, or Marriage would include the Gloria, even when they occur during Advent or Lent. (It should be noted, though, that Ritual Masses are prohibited on Sundays of Advent and Lent.)”

Ok, so I have to ascertain is the feast of OL Fatima is considered a solemnity

Our Lady of Fatima is an optional memorial, unless it is the patronal feast of the parish, Diocese, or civil jurisdiction (I.e. as the United States is under the patronage of Mary in her title of Immaculate Conception)

I would think if you are having your nuptials within Mass, I would think the Gloria would be sung, and the Creed would be said. However, it is probably best to ask the person in charge of your marriage preparation and/or the priest that will be witnessing your marriage.

The Penitential Act is omitted.

In the US it is generally an optional memorial. (USCCB) Friday the 13th this year.

At every wedding at which I have sung or played, the Gloria and Creed have not been included.

This is something you need to check with the priest who will be celebrating the mass!

Same here.

Assisted at a Nuptial Mass last weekend. Gloria apparently is customarily not done, but the bride asked for it and so the priest recited it. No Creed, and as pointed out earlier, no Penitential Rite.

Also, during Marriage prep, the parish customarily give the couple a Mass booklet. You can find all the answers you need for programs there.

I should point out that in the new rubrics, found in the Roman Missal: Third Edition of 2011, in the nuptial Mass, the penitential act is omitted, and the Gloria is said. This is regardless of what feast day the Mass is celebrated on. This, of course, applies if we’re talking about the actual ritual Mass for the celebration of marriage; there are some days on which the rubrics specify that the Mass of the day is used for a wedding. However, the day in question here is not one of them.

This! 👍

For whatever reason, people seem to have missed that, in the edition of the Roman Missal that was recently promulgated (remember? the one with “and with your spirit”?), the Gloria became a required part of the nuptial Mass (in the previous Missal, it was optional).

One more thing to note: there’s a new ritual for the sacrament of marriage; it may be utilized as early as September 2016, and will become mandatory in December 2016. To the best of my knowledge, it hasn’t yet been published. If your wedding is in 2017, then you might want to wait until the new ritual is published, and then get the new version from your priest at that time. (Be gentle… it’s possible that he hasn’t even heard that a new ritual book is coming out!)

Again, this! 👍

Although your wedding might be taking place on the feast of OL of Fatima, P&L, your Mass won’t be the Mass of the day (that is, it won’t be a Mass of OL of Fatima) – it will be a ritual mass of the sacrament of Marriage. So, you will have the Mass parts of a nuptial Mass (collect, preface, prayer after communion, etc), not that of the Mass of the observance of OL of Fatima…

In the new rite of matrimony within Mass that will be coming out shortly, the penitential rite is omitted, the Gloria is sung and the Creed is only said on Sundays or on a day when it is a required part of the liturgy for the day.

I should have said this year’s feast of OL Fatima in 10 days

There is a book called Marriage is for Keeps or something to that effect. The person who was coordinating our marriage paperwork gave us the book. It has the teadings, psalsms Gospels, etc. in there. It has the liturgy for within Mass and outside of Mass.
