You are totally right Casilda!! But we have to remember society has it’s own pace at evolving (the church itself has evolved during it’s pilgrimage in history )…Ordained Catholic Priests know better than to emulate the world.
But 40 million dollars could have helped children in orphanages. That’s not a lot of money to compensate 189 people.
There is a home for boys in this area. They are from families where the mother and/or father are alcoholics or drug abusers. Are there orphanages any more?
Are you beating your wife or your mother?Anyway, are you blaming the victims or the criminal priests for the payout?
and that is my response to your question also.I’m sorry I don’t get your meaning?
this:I don’t get it. What are you talking about?
Who said I was blaming anybody?are you blaming the victims or the criminal priests for the payout?
Thank you. I was just thinking that there are a lot of worthy charities that need donations.Sorry. I did make a cognitive leap there. My apologies.
really? How much did each person need? What would make you happy? That’s not a lot of money to compensate 189 people.
It’s just over $200k per person. The diocese could have reduced this and the legal fees long ago had they taken these issues more seriously. I’m sorry but there have been plenty of shenanigans when it came to hiding any money. The diocese of my childhood put $10s millions into their cemeteries simply to avoid having to pay it out. Eventually they were forced to bring it back and make a payout. Again, you as a regular parishioner I’d think you should abhor that your diocese probably used your offering for legal fees addressing what should have been years ago. The money saved could have easily gone to support children or whatever and offered the church to morally to come clean…But 40 million dollars could have helped children in orphanages.
