NY Papal Mass.....Can Anybody please help?

Hi Everybody,

About a year ago, I regained my faith and got back into the Catholic faith.

When I heard about the Pope coming to the U.S. I was so excited and figured it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity

My father and brother do not really follow as they should, however they both agreed to go with me and make the trip.

In the last few months I have been finishing my degree and applying to law schools so I have not been on the forums or had much time. Now I find out today that registration is closed? I had no idea that tickets were even available yet:(

If anybody knows anyway at all to get 3 or even 2 tickets to see the Papal Mass, I would greatly appreciate anybody’s help.

I left a message at the Boston Archdiocese but the voicemail already says registration is closed!

I never heard that there WAS a registration period! :confused:

Sorry you may not be able to go. Check with your parish or your archdiocese - they may need chaperons for groups of school children or other groups that are going. Though it may be a long shot, you never know.

I’m afraid your chances are slim to none.

I live in NYC, and I am even involved building the new Yankee stadium, and I have no chance of seeing the Mass either. Apparently, this Mass has been opened up to the whole country, so each diocese will only get a small handfull of tickets. Even my own diocese, the Brooklyn diocese, which represents almost a milion Catholics will only get about 1000 tickets. Yankee stadium only seats 65,000 people, so figure out the odds.

Contact your parish though, miracles do happen!👍

every dioceses has a limited number of tickets and has opened them up on a first come first serve basis, so in most dioceses the registration is indeed already closed.
 
Yeah, this is not looking good and really bumbing me out. I wish the media would talk about something like this instead of always ignoring religion…Then maybe I would have heard and got a jump on it. :o
 
Our diocese had a lottery. You had to apply by the end of January. Even priests and deacons had to enter a lottery for tickets to the mass at St. Patrick’s.
 
MAYBE some of the US diocese the furtherest away would have tickets that are not being used… BIG maybe.

Hmm, Catholic radio is missing a golden opportunity to run one of those “be the tenth caller” contests.
 
Relax, if you don’t have tickets you will be able to watch it on TV.

And the positives of watching the mass on TV are you won’t have to fight the crowds, and won’t be subject to the security provisions which you know will be in place.

Amen to this. I was in the Vatican Basilica for Christmas Midnight Mass in December and it was, in a word, ridiculous. The Mass, of course, was beautiful-- getting tickets, getting to the basilica, getting in line, RUNNING from security to the doors, getting shoved while trying to receive Communion-- that was ridiculous. Stay home, watch it on TV, be glad you’re not there. The blessing still counts. 👍
 
We are still waiting to see if we got tickets. I doubt it. I will be very disappointed.

this was announced in every parish bulletin in the diocese and from the pulpit on the same day so everyone would have an equal chance. there was no need to announce it in secular news media since the tickets were intended to allow ordinary Catholics to have the chance to attend. My guess is that people who snapped up the tickets will find later they are unable to travel to NYC and their tickets will be offered to others later, and I would not be surprised to find people trying to cash in on E-bay and scalping free tickets for cash. such is our sad sad world.

Actually they will not be able to give the tikets to others. Just like airline tickets, they pope tickets are for the person named on the ticket only. That is why people had to sumbit their birthday along with the request. There wil be background checks on all ticket holders. ID’s will be checked at the stadium to see if the name on the ticket matches the ID. Tickets are non-transferrable

somebody finally got smart, and a good thing too, I vividly remember scalpers in Chicago for his outdoor Mass shortly after Pope JP2’s election.
 
What will they do with the seats that are left open becuase people do not come even though they were given tickets? I am going to the DC papal mass, but I imagine it would be the same thing for NY. Someone told me for DC they will let it open to the public, or whoever is there waiting…I don’t know

From what I know in NY, ONLY those with tickets who have cleared a background check will be allowed in. In our diocese there was a lottery. The names have been picked and now are in process of being checked. Only after names have cleared with the “winners” be notified, sometime by the end of this week so I’ve heard. So far, no one in our parish has heard and except for a nun and priest I know who are doing a “play by play” of the Mass (sorry for the baseball pun) no one else I know is going or knows if they are going yet. I doubt they would just let people waiting in line go in without a background check. Also, all those coming to the stadium have to arrive by bus from pick up points throughout the NY area.
