In making its case that the popular AR-15 is a “common element in mass shootings,” the New York Times, citing the owner of a gun engineering company, reported the semi-automatic rifle can fire eight rounds per second. [story continues]…

[Here are some of the **comments to the article. Unless you are a sci-fi fan, some of it will be lost on you.] 😃

The NYT is simply stating the truth, as usual. I have actually modified my AR-15, and with the 30,000 round clip (actually 60,000 rounds – two mags taped together), and on full super sonic hyper auto mode, I can always empty the magazine in -1.0314159 nanoseconds. The bullet velocity is increased to an amazing warp 7. It’s all in the trigger finger!

Not bad 38. Mine’s a 7 gazillion rounds a second, and with a few modification I made myself these travel so fast at hyper light speed they actually go back in time and hit the target before I pull the trigger.

If you handload with boattails, you can hit warp 7.5 and increase range to 320000 yards. Not critiquing your method, just trying to help:)

No, no, no, light speed is too slow!
To be a truly effective we’re gonna have to go right to…ludicrous speed!

Wow–that’s amazing–how long does it take to load 60,000 rounds?—-🙂

You know what stinks 38knuck? I live in Colorado so I can only get the 15,000 round magazines. But that’s ok – nobody needs a 30,000 round magazine to hunt deer.

Thats it? Clearly you’re a beginner because I do that with one hand. I catch all the brass with my other hand.

Mine causes global warming and is only used to kill polar bears….

I can shoot so fast that the second and third round hits the target before the first. :>)

Don’t have a problem with that many rounds… But if the rifle is black, well… That would make it just too damn scary!

If you tape together two clips, then tape them to two more clips, (that are also taped together) you can have infinite rounds. It multiples exponentially. Just don’t think about it.
That’s how it works.

You forgot to mention how 59,991 of the 60,000 rounds also hit the bulls-eye dead center. Incredible speed AND accuracy at that rate of fire. Amazing!

I would think the friction at that speed would cause the barrel to overheat and bend. Of course, there’s no way we’d be able to tell the accuracy of your statement. Warp 7 is approximately 656x the speed of light, so we wouldn’t see the bullets until after they had passed us. Of course since it’s nearly instantaneous, we wouldn’t be able to see that we couldn’t see.

Therein lies another problem. At 9600 km/hour, the bullet would be able to maintain orbit, meaning it would continue to fall around the earth (or at least until ambient air friction causes the bullet to have a greater vertical vector towards the earth. Traveling 73.6 million times faster than that, we can safely surmise the bullet would travel around the earth and hit you in the back of the head, unless, of course, it hit a mountain or higher elevation somewhere within the approximate 25000 mile circumference of the earth.

Did you have to pick a specific location, and or use a specific direction to ensure the bullet didn’t accidentally hit you in the back of the head? Also, when the sound barrier is broken, there is a sonic boom. Was there a huge flash since the light speed barrier was broken? Just curious. 🙂

Now you did have this AR-15 Federation approved…yes? Because They frown upon anyone’s Ammo Traveling more than Warp 6.5, as that would be faster then their slowest Transport that can only travel at Warp 6.2….Ya know the PTB want to confiscate any Ammo that’s faster then their own.Ya know its about Control and using slower AMMO with Slower Trigger time…so those carrying a Federation Conceal and Carry permit will be slower than the Borg and wind up getting massacred, in 10 forward a new Night club, it holds about 103 people, so they would take out at least 49 and wound 53 others… if ya catch my drift…

Only 30,000 per clip? Come on, I have modified my AR-15 to load 100,000 round clips with the new and improved ultra sonic light speed auto mode. With this new system my bullet velocity can now do an astounding warp 9 as it is designed to take out an entire starship with one bullet. Can you believe that? I can take out 100,000 starships if I wanted to with my AR-15. Absolutely astounding.

Alan Grayson, a congressman from the Orlando area, earlier claimed that a fully automatic Ar-15 could fire 700 rounds per minute. This beats the New York Times claim of 480 rounds per minute.

However, both claims appear to be inaccurate. Politifact did some investigating and found that those claims are likely based upon a faulty understanding of official stats.
Army documents list the M16 as having a “cyclic rate of fire” of 700-900 rounds per minute. However, the “cyclic” rate of fire is a theoretical measurement of speed…
“That only means how rapidly the firing mechanism operates while there is ammunition in the gun,” O’Shea said. “It is not the same as being able to actually discharge 700 rounds of ammunition from the gun in 60 seconds.”

The US Army estimates maximum effective rate of fire for a fully automatic M-16 to be 150-200 rounds. However, research by Gary Kleck, Florida State University criminologist indicate that the semi-automatic guns used in mass shootings almost never exceed 50 rounds per minute.

Moreover, Kleck’s research shows that semi-automatic civilian weapons are almost never converted to fully automatic. If an automatic weapon is used in a crime it is usually a stolen military gun.

Huh, well lets get 700 bullets in a chain and see if it works! I always wanted to partake in some civil marksmanship at a legally designated range of course! no but seriously, thats implying that the AR 15, NOT equipped with an “automatic” mode, is able to have a higher RPM than an M-60, an actual assault rifle.
