I finally saw it last night. AWESOME! That’s the sort of music I heard often as a child. And the story is fun; I fell for Delmar - dim, but sweet. 😉

I didn’t see it when I first heard about it as an aunt & my mother both complained about the profanity in it. Maybe it’s my increasing deafness, but the cussing seemed muted & didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the movie.

I have the DVD…must have watched it at least a dozen times…love it…love the humor…love the music…can’t say I remember any profanity?

It’s not really noticeable. I think the only reason I noticed it at all is because I was told it was there. So I guess I shouldn’t have mentioned it - sorry! :o

Another neat thing: I read that the title came from Sullivan’s Travels - a 1941 movie. I saw it years ago, remembered it but not the title.

I did not like it. That sort of behavior depicted on screen, couldn’t relate.

Absolute rubbish. Hollywood’s attempt to make Protestant Rural America look stupid.

I really liked the film and can’t remember swearing of any kind. Not into this music particularly though I like some music from that genre, but really thought the music played as their theme song gave a real lift. Great fun to watch.

If you enjoyed that then, also good:

‘Men Who Stare At Goats’

and ‘Three Kings’ was good too (from what I remember a long time ago), if you favour Clooney, as a decent actor.

Loved that - seen it twice & read the book. 😃

Never seen Three Kings - I’ll check it out. Haven’t seen enough of Clooney’s films to have much of an opinion about his acting, but he is very easy on the eyes. 😉

Hi. Thanks for getting back. 🙂 Haven’t read the book but apparently it is popular.

The film is hilarious. I have it on DVD; might watch it again tonight. I didn’t think that many genuinely funny moments could be fitted into one film. 😃

I watched Three Kings a very long time ago and my tastes have changed and matured in that time so please don’t blame me if it is less than expected. I ‘remember’ I liked it AT THE TIME. 😃

Wouldn’t know about that. But thank you for the insight into Woman’s Weekly. 😉

As friend gave me a copy of the soundtrack and I really like it too.

Absolutely hilarious movie. I don’t think it goes five minutes without a line that makes me laugh.

It was much funnier than I had thought it would be. On top of that, it made me feel smart - I got most of the Odyssey references in spite of never having read the entire book. 🙂

“Well, ain’t this a geographical oddity…three weeks from everywhere!”

Hilarious,
Southerners find it endearing, btw.

That might be my favorite line in the entire movie.

“Is you is or is you ain’t my constituency?” is worth a great laugh, too.

I have the DVD; I’m going to have to re-watch. Some time when the Spousal Unit is out; she hates that movie. Don’t know why; she’s never actually seen it.

And he stayed convinced that Pete really had been a toad!
That made me think of a different line from earlier.

“You can’t display a toad in a fine restaurant like this. The good folks here will go right off their feed.”
“I just don’t think it’s right to keep him under wraps like we’s ashamed of him”
“Well if it is Pete, I AM ashamed of him.”
