Our choir was absolutely dreadful today. The lead female was out of town, the lead male had laryngitis, and the organist was having a bad day- she kept flubbing the intros, so no one came in on time. I opened my mouth to sing & nothing came out but a squeak- my voice came back around the Sanctus but died at the Recessional. During the reading of Isaiah 62 the reader started to say “glorious clowns” instead of “glorious crowns” & all I could think of was that WE were the Glorious Clowns. About the only thing we did right was to just keep trying anyway!

I have had days like this!! 😃

I look at them as reminders that God has a wacky sense of humor!! :whacky:

Whew! For a minute there, I thought we were in for another “clown Mass” thread!

I’m waiting to see if a thread goes up from someone who was there complaining about everything that happened.

We’ve all had days like this. It something special when others around are as well and we a gone down together. It just adds to the craziness.

Same. Thank God it was not.

In regards to music, I feel you, OP. My organist recently passed away ( :sad_bye: ) and we have yet to find another. So we just say just about everything. The only part we sing is the recessional. And half the time, that is because I am the only one in the entire parish that can bring himself to be the first one to start singing “Holy God we praise Thy name.” The first few seconds are supremely awkward, but then everyone else feels guilty that I am singing alone and they all join in and it actually sounds pretty nice.

That’s pretty much what it sounded like!

Aha! So there really is a clown Mass 😃

I sing in a schola so I know how you feel, we’ve screwed it up pretty bad a few times ourselves.

In case you haven’t noticed our lives are like that. We are continually making a mess of things. The holy rabbis tell us that “The righteous man sins seven times a day.” This is rabbinical shorthand for saying that we are all completely sinners. It is so good that God loves us so much and forgives us everything.
