Washington, DC – Prenatal testing for Down syndrome should not be considered preventive medicine. Such tests cannot prevent the presence of Down syndrome in a child; but they can decrease the likelihood of a child with Down syndrome surviving beyond the womb.

I know what you mean but I disagree.

Prenatal testing for DS can also help a family prepare for the arrival of a child with special needs. It can also be used to p(name removed by moderator)oint condidtions for which pre-natal treatment or surgery is available.

Yes, some people will abuse the information. But that is no reason to limit the availability of the information for good and moral purposes. The tests themselves are not immoral.

[for the record, I hate Obamacare but, to the extent it mimics health insurance, the same principals applly.]
