He just finished speaking a few minutes ago. He decried the evils of the Holocaust. He also stated America’s commitment to stop genocide around the world. And he stated that we believe in the future.
This from a man who supports partial birth abortion.

It is an extraordinarily sad commentary on the moral and intellectual deterioration of America that our first black president could go to the Holocaust Museum, renew the promise that such genocide would “Never Again” be tolerated or allowed to happen, in the midst of it actually happening.

So sad that nobody learned the lesson of slavery is that before you can sleep at night as an enslaver of human being, you must first deny the humanity of the slaves in question. So sad that nobody realizes that the Nazi atrocities came long AFTER a cultural mindset was established that Jews were less than ‘real’ humans, little better than vermin, really.

And thus we come to an American president promising to “Never Again” let it happen all the while participating in the slaughter of tens of millions of innocent humans being so far.

Nobody wakes up one day and starts committing genocide. The first step is ALWAYS to deny the very humanity of the intended victim. The result after that is achieved is inevitable.

Back when he was an obscure IL Senator he voted no on a bill to ban partial birth abortion. It was a very narrow restriction too that had broad support on both sides of the aisle. Not Obama though. Abortion is one policy stance he has never wavered even slightly on. Unfortunately.

= genocide? Dubious accusation.

Perhaps not partial abortion specifically, but abortion generally surely qualifies. 50 million dead in the USA alone is NOT a genocide??? Is it because it’s an equal opportunity killer?

Genocide has less to do with killing in high numbers, than an organised effort to target and wipe out a specific group or groups, which often have a tense history of being perceived as superior or inferior compared to other groups. Arguably, if there are ten doctors in the world and you make a systematic effort to target and kill all of them, that could be called a genocide, even though you could only kill ten of them. There is no systematic effort, anywhere, to target and wipe out babies or embryos in general. Abortion isn’t genocide, and in my opinion the accusation makes a bit of a mockery out of the pro-life movement.

I think your definition is too narrow. Genocide is not usually arbitrary. Genocide proceeds along identifiable and predictable steps.
  1. Create a scapegoat that is to blame for some serious woes. (Check. Unplanned babies will ruin your life!)
  2. Deride and degrade the humanity (and thus dignity) of the scapegoat class. (Check. It’s not a baby, it’s just protoplasm, just a part of the woman’s body)
  3. Propose the ultimate solution. (Check. Abortion on demand, and fight any regulation, restriction or resistance to it tooth and nail)
By your definition, the Serbs committed no genocide since they had no intention of killing ALL Bosnians, right? Just the ones identified as scapegoats, the ones that lived in areas that ‘should’ be Serb areas. And so on.

Just because a scapegoat class isn’t of uniform race, religion or ethnicity, doesn’t disqualify them. Nobody claims that there is an assault on all babies. But if you can’t see that there is an all-out assault on “unplanned” babies, you’re culturally blind. As a scapegoat class, they’ve been visciously denounced as a threat to women’s happiness for my entire lifetime. It’s time we learn from history for a change.

Actually Obama voted against the Infant Born Alive Protection Act. This means that he not only supports partial birth abortion but also the killing of those who survive an abortion. He was the lone congressman to vote that way.

Obama also has no problem with leaving a baby to die when they survive an abortion.

The definition of genocide has been contentious for decades in international law and we could argue about this all day, so I’m not offering a comprehensive definition so much as common factors and assumptions you’re ignoring.

For one, you would have to defend your assumption that abortion is murder, and there’s a solid argument as to why you would be uncomfortable with your own definition of abortion as genocide. Secondly, most of the legal definitions of genocide that I’ve read assume that the persecuted group share some sort of social (race, ethnicity, occupation) or ideological belonging that makes them a visible target – which in turn presumes these are members have been born. Furthermore, you have to I.D. your perpetrators.

But I want to take the focus away from how to define genocide to my question, why the heck does abortion need to be called a “genocide”? Isn’t it wrong anyway even it’s not a genocide?

Folks, how about we Catholics start an Abortion Museum?

With a similar role as the Holocaust Museum. In order to disseminate information about abortion and show the ugly reality of what abortion is, in a graphic manner just like the Holocaust Museum does.

Btw, does the Holocaust Museum receive federal dollars?

Let’s apply for federal grants to fund the Abortion Museum. 😉

Obama does not ‘support’ abortion of any sort. He is opposed to criminalisation of most abortion procedures. It would make more sense for people to accept that he is genuine in his belief that zygotes, embryos and fetuses do not have human rights, or at least not in the way the Catholic church sees them, and argued that point, rather than seeking analogies which your pro-choice opponents will reject instantly. Some people I know regard the killing of cattle as murder. Pro-choice people react like you react on hearing that when abortion is equated with murder, or genocide. It makes sense to start where you opponent is if you want to persuade.

These kinds of statements are unfair to the plight of the Jewish people, and this rhetoric certainly won’t sway moderates into being pro-life.

Let’s try this:

“I do not support shooting abortionists, I’m just opposed to prosecuting the guy who killed the abortionist George Tiller. I do not support the Holocaust, I just oppose the idea of bringing the perpetrators of Nazi genocide to justice. I do not support child rape, I just oppose the laws that criminalize child rape. I do not support serial killers, I just believe that Charles Manson and all serial killers should be set free.”

Does it all make any sense?

Yes, Obama supports abortion. Moreover, he is using the HHS mandate to FORCE ME to pay for other people’s abortions.

I disagree. I pray for a time to come when we will remember legalized abortion as an atrocity in the same category with the Holocaust, the genocide in Rwanda, and slavery. And I really do believe we should have Abortion Museums and Abortion Memorials of all sorts, as reminders of this tragedy, just as we have today museums/memorials of the Holocaust, slavery, the Civil War, etc.

But I guess if we’ll ever have an Abortion Museum, Barack Obama will have a prominent place in it… …as the guy who opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act!   :bigyikes: :bigyikes: :bigyikes:
