Washington, DC – President Barack Obama plans to nominate former New York City Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg as the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. Hamburg is served as assistant HHS secretary during the Clinton administration and has been a key abstinence education opponent.

Hamburg takes a pro-abortion position and ran New York City’s abortion counseling and family-planning centers for former mayor Rudy Giuliani. The nation’s largest city is also the location of one of the highest abortion rates in the country.

tHIS DOES NOT SUPRISE (dang caps lock) me. I flat-out do not trust him. I think we are in for a bad 4 years. I pray he’s a 1 timer.

I have a very close Baptist buddy that cannot understand why Obama did not lose the Baptist & Catholic votes enbloc.

Face it, this guy is not going to appoint anyone who is not anti-life. We knew that when we (you, not me) voted for him.

Most presidents appoint people who were their supporters, and do not appoint people who opposed them. One would have to have been pro-abortion to have been a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. So, while I am sure Obama prefers to appoint pro-abortion people, he would not have any significant number of prolife people from whom to choose, if any. It would be hard, if not impossible, to find a dedicated Democrat who is not pro-abortion nowadays.

Good Point.

I voted for Obama… and I think it would be unfair to label me “pro-abortion”. I don’t see abortion as the only issue I should be considering, and there were other issues I was concerned with. If abortion is banned or restricted in the US, it won’t follow that suddenly everything will be set right. People will seek out abortions illegally, they will commit infanticide, or unwanted children will be abused. Political capitol will have been spent on a divisive issue on a population that has largely rejected alot of the values that, in the past, would have made political stances like banning abortion more practicable.

I’ve read some Catholics who supported Obama were threatened by priests by withholding sacraments. Like Douglas Kmiec, he is a Catholic that supported Obama, and may become the US ambassador to the Vatican, but his priest refused him the sacraments. He later got an apology from the bishop. There are alot of angry conservative Catholics and Orthodox out there venting on anybody that supported Obama for whatever reason.

I’m a political “liberal”, and actually believe it or not interested in learning about Catholicism and Orthodoxy (I currently don’t go to church, but I practice Buddhism), but the feeling I get is unless you tow the political line of being a conservative, you are not welcome. I’ve never been comfortable with conservative politics, at best I’m a moderate-liberal. Especially the political machinations of Evangelical Christianity have turned me off to it.

And yet I often hear Democrats complain that they are not pro-abortion. The party, as a party and in its general direction has become the de facto party of abortion for decades now, and wishes to preside over a country wherein any child can be aborted throughout nine months of pregnancy, which is currently the case.
