Obama Told: Change Your Mind on Abortion b/c Unborn Children Feel Pain

Washington, DC – Yesterday, pro-abortion President Barack Obama relied on the language Bill Clinton used to try to moderate his radical image on abortion. But a pro-life senator and organization are pushing back on comment he made saying he wants abortions to be “safe, legal, and rare.”

“Safe, lega, and rare.” The call behind the legalization of abortion. Not surprisingly, when abortion was legalized, abortion rates went way up, and there are more abortions today than ever before.

“Safe, legal, and rare ; one million dead a year.”
Safe, legal and rare. A slogan, a political dangling carrot, nothing more. Votes are won and lost behind such grand pronouncements. But what was originally represented by this statement was a goal to eliminate so many causes of abortion, not to recommend an increase in lewd and lascivious behaviors or wanton disregard for human life.

Abortion in the US is currently a safe procedure for most women. It is currently legal. It is, unfortunately, anything but rare. Ask yourselves why. What leads to the need for abortion? How far back must we go in our family structures and cultures and social mores to decrease the increase? I’m genuinely interested to know what forum participants believe is the catalyst that leads young women to the abortion clinic. If you find yourselves tempted to condemn or censure the pregnant woman and her partner, ask yourselves what you are doing, in your embrace of Life, to effect change toward what you feel is the greater good? Are you willing to assist the 15.5 million children in this country who are living in poverty, 7.5 million of whom are not covered by health insurance? How? (news.discovery.com/human/us-poverty-record-high.html)

Education, opportunity, encouragement, tough love, it takes many modes of action to turn around the problem of unwanted pregnancy. What are your ideas?

Keep the Commandments. Stop looking to the gubmint to solve problems.

Teach abstinence. Works ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the time.

How is abortion ever safe for the unborn child?
Successful abortion is obviously never safe for a fetus or embryo. I’m sure you understand that the “safe” component of this little sound bite refers to an assurance of medical safety for the woman undergoing the procedure.

"Pain in the developing fetus is controversial because of the difficulty in measuring and interpreting pain during gestation. It has received increased attention lately because of recently introduced legislation that would require consideration of fetal pain during intentional termination of pregnancy. During development, sensory fibers are abundant by 20 weeks; a functional spinal reflex is present by 19 weeks; connections to the thalamus are present by 20 weeks; and connections to subplate neurons are present by 17 weeks with intensive differentiation by 25 weeks. These cells are important developmentally, but decline as a result of natural apoptosis. Mature thalamocortical projections are not present until 29 to 30 weeks, which has led many to believe the fetus does not experience emotional “pain” until then. Pain requires both nociception and emotional reaction or interpretation. Nociception causes physiologic stress, which in turn causes increases in catecholamines, cortisol, and other stress hormones. Physiological stress is different from the emotional pain felt by the more mature fetus or infant, and this stress is mitigated by pain medication such as opiates. The plasticity of the developing brain makes it vulnerable to the stressors that cause long-term developmental changes, ultimately leading to adverse neurological outcomes. Whereas evidence for conscious pain perception is indirect, evidence for the subconscious incorporation of pain into neurological development and plasticity is incontrovertible. Scientific data, not religious or political conviction, should guide the desperately needed research in this field. In the meantime, it seems prudent to avoid pain during gestation.

Most abortions are performed on women at **12 weeks’ **gestation or under.

Abortion is NEVER safe, and it is NEVER excusable. We are a people of life, and if we dare to play fast and loose with that, every soul suffers.

The pro-abortion crowd treat people like soul-less pieces of meat, no better than barnyard animals.

They can justify this holocaust all they want but it does not change the truth one whit.

I am pro-choice and I did not ignore this fact. So you can see that exceptions do exist to your hard and fast rules.

Please clarify.

Do you mean that you are in favor of abortion on demand, or that you are in favor of a woman CHOOSING to remain chaste, or of choosing to give birth, or any of the other things that this single word grouping CHOOSES to ignore?

This is fascinating! Pro-choice is all-encompassing, and the term is usually pounced upon with great fervor by pro-lifers, who have come to believe that “pro-choice” means “pro-abortion” only.

I support CHOICE, whether it be selecting abortion or deciding to remain chaste or choosing to give a child up for adoption. The term “choice”, when used intelligently, does not ignore any options. It stands as “an act of selecting or making a decision when **faced with two or more possibilities.” **

If Obama really supports making abortions “safe, legal, and rare” then why during his election campaign did he support the “Freedom of Choice Act” which would have invalidated every single state and federal law which in any way, shape, or form restricted abortions? This so called “Freedom of Choice Act” would have rendered useless laws across America which require things such as parental notification for a minor seeking to get an abortion, parental consent laws for a minor seeking to get an abortion, laws requiring the abortion “clinic” to show an ultrasound to the mother before the abortion, and laws that required a 24-48 hour or so waiting period before getting the abortion? It would have also done such heinous things as eliminating conscience rights for doctors, nurses, and other such medical professionals when it comes to abortion. You can see more about what the passage of this act would have done here:

That said, I think it is a well known fact that Obama is the most pro-abortion president in the history of this once great nation! It is disgusting! The holocaust must end and it must end now!

Fetus Cannot Feel Pain Before 24 Weeks, Says Royal College Of Obstetricians And Gynaecologists, UK
medicalnewstoday.com/articles/193116.php

"A wide range of stakeholders were involved in producing these documents, including scientists, doctors, midwives and lay representatives. Pertinent international scientific studies published since the 1990s were examined by the respective working parties, as was evidence submitted to the Science and Technology Committee. This was followed by an online public consultation. The public was also invited to submit their views. Both reports were thoroughly peer-review by academics, ethicists and legal experts. "

A contraceptive mentality combined with lack of moral training. No one has ever told them that extramarital sex is wrong, that it is hurtful to women and to children, who end up abandoned, aborted, deserted, or without fathers.

tammy57, what “choice” do you allow for the unborn child about to be killed, when nobody has asked what the baby wants?

It is, unfortunately, anything but rare. Ask yourselves why. What leads to the need for abortion?
In my opinion, it’s disregard our culture places on womanhood and women’s role in the most fundamental unit of society, the family. Women are the fabric of society. They hold it together and our society will reflect the values of our women.
How far back must we go in our family structures and cultures and social mores to decrease the increase?
To at least my grandparents’ generation and their values.

Maybe we should make terrorism “safe and legal,” then it too would be rare. And then there is rape, robbery, auto theft, murder; just think of how rare all our perversions, hatreds, and vices would be if they were “safe and legal.”

Equally fascinating.

And what CHOICE does the living baby have when the mother CHOOSES to murder it?

How are non-legal abortions “unsafe”? Did you know that before abortions became legal (“on demand”), they were rare and 9 out of 10 were done at a doctor’s office?

Since abortion has become legal, the numbers have skyrocketed.

The United States doesn’t keep track of abortions or follow up with women who have had abortions, but there is data from other countries that we can learn from. I was watching Women of Grace last night and:

+] Women who have had abortions are much more likely to become suicidal or depressed.
+] A large number of women who have had abortions later regret their decision.
+] Women who have abortions have an increased risk of cancer, especially those whose mothers have had breast cancer. Sadly, the kind of cancer these women are at risk for (can’t remember the name) is very hard to treat.
+] With each abortion, your risk of having a premature baby (when you do keep the child) goes up significantly, especially for women who have had two or more abortions.

These are serious things. Even if you don’t care about the unborn child, abortion hurts women.

Today, there are many retreats and counselors who help women who have had an abortion.

Also, how can someone who doesn’t believe in God believe in abortion? No God => no afterlife. There is no hope for the child, and you are robbing this baby of the ONLY chance at life he or she will EVER have. With all the aide that is available for single mothers, thousands of people on waiting lists to adopt infants (even ones with birth defects!), and you still choose to abort the child. Is there a more selfish act? 😦
