With Obama’s re-election, where does this leave the Catholic hospitals on the moral issue of being forced to do abortions and providing birth control under Obamacare now?
No person or institution is forced to do abortions. Obamacare does NOT mandate abortion be provided at all. Employers with 50 or more employees are required to provide contraceptive coverage for their employees that elect to provide the Health coverage. The courts have to still decide if the government can make businesses provide contraceptive coverage. Churches do not have to provide any contraception coverage for THEIR employees, but if they are engaged in business, non-profit or not, the government can regulate their business under the commerce clause. Frankly, I think there is good chance of a compromise by the Congress that contraceptive coverage for non-profits will be eliminated.
We also have to remember that many Catholic non-profits and business owners employee other Christians that believe that contraception is moral and not a sin, so should an employer be able to interfere with their religious rights?
We also have the problem in our own Church where 90% of Catholics use contraception which will also be examined by the courts and Congress.

There are no easy answers for this question.

We wouldn’t be, they are still perfectly capable of going out and buying it themselves. The only person who’s religious rights are being trampled is the one being forced to pay for something they find to be morally indefensible.

Failure to abide by the law does not abolish it. The same is true of both religious and secular law. That is a failing in the people of the Church, not of the Church’s teaching.

Yes there is. Stop trying to claim that contraceptives and abortions are necessary for a person’s well being and should therefore being included under the umbrella term of healthcare. This very notion would have been laughed out of the courtroom forty years ago, heck, probably as recently as twenty years ago; but now, because of Roe Vs Wade and similar, people’s perception of right and wrong has become skewed to the point of being unrecognizable.
