Some say swearing is funny as it causes others to squirm or releases frustration.

There is a movie called Winnebagoman on Netflix about a man who was so frustrated because of hot weather, humidity and bugs that he kept swearing and he became a sensation with over 20 million hits on youtube. The movie addressed the issue of ridicule.

IMr. Trololo man was funny but some youtube videos such as the star war kid and 29 year old Yale student Aleksey Vayne who died from overdose after being ridiculed were not.

Thoughts?

I have read that there are only two classes that can use language and have no reprisal, the aristocrats and the poor. The middle class is prevented from doing so.

The president using bad language in this way doesn’t surprise me because he is talking to the media. We know Hollywood certainly gets away with it.

Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

It would be nice to have a president that is a good example for the country. I’m afraid we have gone so far down that most people don’t recognize lack of character and poor leadership.

But he didn’t use any bad language. He said ‘bucket’ - nothing more. That’s what made it a joke.

But is that what everybody was thinking of, is that what he was wanting to bring to mind, a bucket? I don’t think so.

The occasion is supposed to be edgy and push the envelope using off-color, raucous humor, somewhat like a roast. It is a chance for both the press and the president to laugh at themselves and one another. Obama did very well and I remember Bush was also funny.
 
I feel exactly like the president. Because he was prevented by the rules from saying what he really wanted to say.
 
Obama being funny offends half the people; and I suspect even if he were praying it would offend many of the same. Some people will even find his breathing offensive. Volcanos in Chili, Earth Quakes in Nepal, Droughts in California…Check, Check, Check…all his fault.

I can’t figure out why anyone would want the job!

Have we gotten coarser as a society? People make videos and their “friends” use them in the case of Winnebagoman causing him to be fired. The video then gets circulated and later is posted all over youtube. No wonder he is a hermit, lives as a caretaker on a mountain

Exactly. People are just looking to find something to get offended by. They bring their bias and anger to the event before they even hear anything.

Who indeed would want the job…

No they are not. I would be offended no matter who said this. This is the President of the United States. He holds a standard that you and I don’t hold. If it was the former President Bush, I would be angry.

I would not say this in front of any of my children. I just would not.
