Are we under the obligation to obey the signs that say when we can cross the street? The sign that I am referring to have either a hand or a walking man on them.

–Edit–
Is this a sin?

yeah, you are under and obligation by law and we’re supposed to abide by the laws of the land.

whether or not if breaking that law would amount to sin is ridiculous to me. it’s such a trifle

What makes it so? We are suppose to obey the law, correct? I don’t understand why it is not.

It’s not nessecarily grave matter.

It can be, but it’s not always

If you are a dopey teenager in my town darting across the road in your grubby oversized hoodie through two lanes and a turn lane on a perfectly nice day when there’s a perfectly safe crosswalk 5 yards away, than, yes, it’s a sin.

Normally i dont when im in philadelphia or at home cause its not that bad. When i went to nyc… yea them people are crazy.

I doubt it.

I don’t have a link but remember once reading that jaywalking can be safer than crossing at a streetlight because the latter entails people turning right without looking.

We are obligated to live by the just law of the land.

So here that means no phone or texts while driving…

People are locking their phones in the glovebox

In California that will cost you $300 in fines and court fees. So I think it is a good idea.

If jaywalking is a sin, then there is a BUNCH of sinners out in front of church after every Mass 😮

D
No more or less than are inside it during Mass.

We are supposed to obey secular authority in all things that are not sinful. Jaywalking can be hazardous to the safety of.the walker and those around them - often more so than the walker realises.

I don’t when I get off my bus after going to 7/11. You bet your rosary I’m not walking 100 feet to the cross walk just to go right where I was just at, except on the other side of the street. That’s what… a good 5 minutes of my life wasted walking instead of drinking a red bull.

(kidding)

Seriously though, follow the signs.

Mortal sin. The most evilest of all sins.

Get your asbestos jumpsuit ready, son.

One needs to use their brain more, let me just say that.

I see college kids jaywalking at night with dark clothes on. I think they have no idea how easy it is not to see them, sometimes.

Some forms of jaywalking could definitely cause a bad accident.

Sin is based only on the underlying nature of the act. Walking across a road is not sinful; therefore crossing a road when it is safe to do so is not sinful. Usually traffic laws or regulations are written to reflect this, but one’s conscience cannot be burdened by overly intrusive rules.

Your jaywalking creates an unnecessary distraction for other drivers. Distraction endangers the lives of everyone in proximity to the driver, as well as the driver.

When the driver is forced to focus on you, he is taking his eyes off of your 80 year old grandmother who is trying to legally cross the street on her scooter.

Your selfish act is making the roads less safe for others.

If you are knowingly unnecessarily endangering other people. I think you know the answer to the question.
