I was on youtube and I was watching clips from the series “The Tudors”. In one clip, Pope Paul III told the French King to invade England. Was the King of France obligated to obey the Pope in this situation?

They may have had or claimed temporal authority. That’s different than the question you asked.

“The Tudors” is not exactly historically accurate. I’d question whether the Pope ever actually did this.

Pope Boniface VIII claimed such temporal authority in his 1302 papal bull Unam Sanctam (see here).

I guess I don’t know what the Pope’s temporal authority is. In the clip he was saying that Henry VIII’s rule would be invalid when he is excommunicated and he told the King of France to invade England. I know the Tudors is probably not all that historically accurate, but I was just wondering.
