Here is an example based on a real culture:
It wasn’t uncommon for explorers to be offered wives, sisters, and daughters back in the days.

There was a recognition among the tribal leaders the gene pool was just that little bit too shallow in places.

Yes sir, Absolutley.
I know you are young and may have a great deal of passion for the faith but you should really speak to a priest about the plausibility or appropriateness of a Catholic theocracy.

This isn’t the Middle Ages.

So. . . you are looking into a vocation?. . . . . .
Yes sir, Absolutley.
Umm… I think ringil was kidding you – in other words, if you think that a 'benevolent Catholic dictator" is a good idea, are you signing up for the job?

What’s objectively right and wrong?

And I ask again - who’s objective morality?

Sarah x 🙂
Murder, Abortion, Sex before Marriage, Adultery, Basically, anything that violates the 10 Commandements or teachings of the Church is objectively wrong

Objective right is basically, Love. I don’t mean the touchy feely warm fuzzy feelings love, I mean the Crucified kind of love.

That is objective morality.

I think its plausible. Providing of course that the Catholic Monarch respect the right of others to practice their Faiths (Non faiths). Now, back to the subject, Objective Morality. Not Catholic Theocracry, Democracry etc.

Perhaps, Perhaps not. Grave matter to be sure, Whether it was done ratioanlly and withfree will is not mine to determine…
So … you started a thread about subjective morality, but don’t want to advance an opinion on what happens when the objective is violated. In which case it is judgement and punishment you see as being subjective, or at least, relative?

Murder, Abortion, Sex before Marriage, Adultery,
Are there objective definitions of these terms?

What does murder mean for example? The deliberate and willful taking of another human life? Is the death penalty state legislated murder, and therefor objectively wrong?

But that’s relative and subjective then. It doesn’t apply to those people and cultures who have never heard of the ten commandments, or don’t recognize them, or the Deity that issued them.

I don’t understand what was just written there

Obviously, Our LORD is objective, and HIS Justice is Subjective. HE takes into consideration Your degree of culpapbility and then, deals out Justice accordingly…

Murder is the unwarranted, unmerited taking of innoncent life, exclusive of the death penalty.

Most of what is in the 10 commandments, believe it or not, are part of the Natural Moral Law which is written on the heart of man. Hence the reason, things like Killing, Adultery and Stealing are wrong across cultures, times and peoples. So, it isn’t subjective, as everyone has heard of most of these. An African Tribal man will agree with a New York Stockbroker on the fact that killing someone for no reason, and no use is wrong. So in reality, Every culture has heard of this Objective code.

But they’re not, and they weren’t. 🤷

Ahhh … but now we’re talking about reasons.

I can point you to cultures where calling something a ‘crime of passion’ was a legitimate defense until not so long ago … so much for across times and peoples and cultures.

I can point you to cultures where someone could be killed so their heart could be eaten, so the cannibals eating the heart would get that man’s strength and valor.

I can point you to cultures where women were given, including wives, to strangers of other races, to expand the gene pool.

See, it’s all totally subjective I’m afraid.
So in reality, Every culture has heard of this Objective code.
And your objective code, is not their objective code.

It’s all relative and subjective.

But here is the thing, Are you certain that they did not feel guilty about the things they did? It doesn’t matter if they did it or not. What matters is the little voice going off inside their heads saying “Don’t do it”. The fact that they subjectively attempted to work towards an objective code is irrelevant. The code itself is objective.

How can moral relativism work? Then how are you going to compare your standard to mine? There is no intellgible line to draw in the sand so to speak. So, try this, the next time you see an act of human injustice, according to the moral relativist, try not to get angry, as of course, you are in no position to tell them that they are wrong, as You have no objective authority to help you say otherwise. So, according to the relativist, hitler, stalin and all the other evil guys, weren’t evil at all, but merely acting to their own “right” and “wrong”. This theory makes for a chaotic universe. Lets thrown the justice system out the window, police, jails, crime and punishment, lets huck it, We all do our own thing. If you want to say Au Contraire, then you become guilty of having an objective standard, which defeats the whole arguement…

If humanity adopted this manner of Philosophy, we would self destruct in a matter of weeks and months.
