Could anyone give me opinions on these two orders?
Good or bad ?
As anyone met there priests ? are they fairly young ?
I have one more question the more i read about the OVM the more i like but there seminar is based in the USA. Being from the UK does it allow me to look at orders outside Europe?
I attend a traditional church staffed by a relatively new order: fssp (approx. 20 yrsold).
There also is 1 priest who is an oblate of the virgin mary. He has been at the church for
about 6 mos. One of the things these particular oblates do is help ground new churches
(totally in humble service to our Lord). He has been a priest for 25yrs. www.newadvent.org
is a site that provides: Aquinas’ complete Summa Theologica, the complete Catholic
Bible, the complete Catholic Encyclopedia, Church Fathers, and a search engine which I used for info on these oblates.
I was really attracted to the Oblates of the Virgin Mary’s charism. To enter you need a bachelor’s degree. The Oblates serve the poor, comfort the needy, visit hospitals, lead youth ministry in prayer groups, run a few parishes.
Their charism is: “Working Toward a Rebirth of Spirituality in Today’s World”. I have a packet of information they sent me in the mail. Their website is: omvusa.org
Their vocation director seems very nice on the phone. I know that they are located in Boston, Ma and have their own seminary. They also run a house that serves as a center for retreats, counsels priests, lay people and religious. Inside of Boston’s Prudential Mall they run a chapel/bookstore. Its a great order, definitely worth checking out.
Both the Oblates of the Virgin Mary and the Marians of the Immaculate Conception are fantastic religious congregations. I love them both! The Oblates are Ignatian (Jesuit) in their spirituality and are a fairly small community. They were founded in Italy by Ven. Pio Lanteri in the 1800’s. I am a member of their St Therese Vocation Society and also a member of the Marians’ Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception. The Marians were originally affiliated with the Franciscans, but later separated and became a Congregation of their own, I believe. They were founded by Bl. Stanislaus in Poland in the 1600’s. Both are 100% faithful to the Pope and are growing. Either congregation would be an excellent choice. I see a lot of similarities between the two.
The Oblates run a couple beautiful chapels in the center of Boston. The Oblates have been a great spiritual treasure for me while studying in the city: confessions and Mass are frequently available, and there is now perpetual adoration at St. Clement’s Eucharistic Shrine.
