Obligation of hearing mass

I saw this definition from “A Practical Dictionary of Biblical and General Catholic Information” at the back of my Confraternity Bible. I think this bible was published at the time of Vatican I because the mass explained here is the ad orientem mass. Go back to the topic, I saw this definition… what can you say about it? Sounds about right. One is required to attend Mass…
Also. Any Mass can be a “ad orientem” Mass.

I don’t think anything of substance is different now. (The OF doesn’t have the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar nor the Last Gospel, but the point is that attendance is required at the entire service.) One just does not usually see it spelled out in such detail.

I’m not seeing what’s different today except that as someone else said, the Mass does not end with a Last Gospel. Also, it is considered excusable to be slightly late or to leave slightly early under some prudential circumstances (for example, your child was sick or unruly so you were late getting out of the house, or you ran into an unforeseen traffic tie-up and were slightly late to the Mass), though we are generally supposed to be there for the whole Mass.

Last night at the Vigil, I had a medical appliance emergency and had to duck into the restroom for a couple of minutes. Missed the Renewal of Baptismal Promises :-/ but got back just in time to see our catechumen get baptized. I presume that since this was an unforeseen thing that I had to take care of, it was excusable, yes?

Since you’re homebound you don’f have an obligation. However watching on youtube is good.

It is ok to watch Mass on YouTube. It does not take the place of Mass and does not satisfy the obligation. If you are homebound you have no obligation to attend.

Yes, it’s fine. You don’t need to go to Mass again.

The only thing you missed out on was a plenary indulgence for renewing your baptismal promises at the Easter Vigil. You can always earn another plenary indulgence on another day though.

The funny thing is that earlier in the day yesterday, I informed some folks on another forum on the plenary indulgence opportunity at the renewal of baptismal promises. And then I missed it myself.

But, I did get to participate in the Stations of the Cross at my parish on Good Friday. And that also has a plenary indulgence available. Said so right in the booklet we used.
