We have a vigil mass on Thursday at 7pm and a mass on friday at 9am and 12 noon. Is either Thu or Fri count towards the holy day of obligation? Are we obligated to go to both?
Note that the Saturday evening Mass is not a ‘vigil’ Mass but the ‘anticipated’ Sunday Mass. A Vigil Mass is different from the Mass of the Day and has its own different readings and collects.Catholic tradition, like the Jewish tradition, considers the day to begin at sundown on the previous day. Vigil mass celebrated on Thursday is considered to be celebrated on the feast day, since the feast day began at sundown. The same goes for Saturday Vigil Mass.
No, a Communion service does not fulfill your obligation. Try to attend at the other parish (or a different one, if you have that many choices). Perhaps you can carpool with someone. If for medical reasons you are truly unable to walk the extra distance from remote parking, you would probably not be required to attend. Our pastor is convalescing out of town after surgery, and no priest is available for Mass on Friday morning. A Communion Service will be offered instead. I cannot attend the evening Mass. The next closest parish is having a huge festival that day, and parking will be at a premium with roads closed and such.
Does the Communion Service fulfill my holy day obligation? I’d prefer to attend my own parish if it does.

Feel free to attend either or both, Communion would be the only thing not open to you.Is there any consideration or restriction for a new comer to attend Mass at either vigil or the holy day mass? I am seriously considering conversion from non-christianity (agnosticism but have been attending episcopal church since late May, still not baptized) and would like to attend the vigil tonight at a nearby parish and was thinking of bringing flowers for that, and was also going to attend tomorrow? (Obviously will not be taking communion.) Just wanted to attend.
