I"m from Belgoum so excuse first af all for my terrible english. The newsletter “Scrupulous Anonymous” is very helpful to me, but may I ask you a personal question.
I work in a dairy factory wich produces al kind of dairy food products. Sometimes colleges waste product and handle in contrary to the rules. What should I do when a see al collegue doing so? Have I the obligation to say I don’t like what he"s doing?

Pax et bonum

Perhaps you can bring it up to your manager, giving him examples of what you have seen. The manager could then decide if he needs to discuss it with the employees or maybe provide more training to everyone on proper handling.

Waste does occur in business operations. Sometimes it is avoidable, and sometimes it is not.

I do not think that you have a moral obligation to confront people in your factory. Telling the proper manager is enough.

for any irregularity in the workplace, follow the published rules of your employer in reporting such abuses. If you are the direct superior, put an end to it by following the guidelines for reporting and disciplining such abuse. If you are a coworker, report to your superior those actions which violate company policy or civil laws.

Yeah good point. You don’t have to mention any names, unless it is obvious to your supervisor who you’re talking about.

Yes you have an obligation. The good news is yes you can excersize prudence.

Sometimes you can make statements without pointing it at anyone in particular.

For example. If there is a coworker who does NOT waste product, you can express your admiration of that coworker. And specifically pay these compliments so that those coworkers who DO waste product can witness.
