Oblivious to what happens during an abortion

I and most pro choicer I know do know how they are carried out. We know that the vast majority are done medically, where a pill is taken and induces a miscarriage that happens at home. We also know how surgical abortions are done if the pregnancy is more than three months along. We’ve seen the pictures, we get it. We even know how late term abortions are done, and some of us have varying opinions on those.

But the pro life movement is seen as intellectually dishonest for many reasons, and one of the big ones is their portrayal of a typical abortion, when in fact most are done at home in the first three months and it’s rare to even see the sac, and there are no baby parts to see.

SO, your admitting that most pro-choicer know, but just don’t care then?
I’ve seen both my children, and two miscarried children’s heart beat at 4 weeks in utero.

In other words, if we don’t see the person being killed, it’s okay to kill them. If we dehumanize them and call them less than human, it’s okay to kill them by the hundreds, thousands or even millions. Makes perfect sense. I have to wonder if your cognitive dissonance trumps the prolifers’ intellectual dishonesty.

I agree. Its like the whole “if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it…” theory

I fail to see any intellectual dishonesty, maybe I’m just dense.
***What bothers me is that most Americans don’t know that Planned Parenthood does abortions, does 1/3 of all the abortions in the country, derives the majority of their income from abortions, and does very little else in the way of “healthcare.”***I guess they do provide help for people with STDs, and contraceptives, especially for girls forced to be prostitutes or victims of child molesters.
And our president gave a speech to Planned Parenthood recently, lauding their efforts, promising to stand with them, here.
He needs our prayers so badly.

Note bolded above. In another thread related to abortion it became clear that Planned Parenthood has a tremendous financial incentive to provide abortions. Years ago, Planned Parenthood was more focused on contraceptives, paps, STD treatment etc. But following Roe, the demand for abortion increased. For some time there were other providers but thankfully fewer and fewer clinics and hospitals perform abortions. Thus Planned Parenthood has taken over this industry.

BUT the public still sees Planned Parenthood as this benevolent organization that helps poor women get “healthcare.”

I do think that between the Gosnell trial, the pro life movement that is getting stronger and state by state restrictions on abortions, the demand will reduce and I hope PP can be extracted from our society. It’s an organization that promotes evil in so many ways.

if what you are saying is true then why there so many abortion clinics on the us performing surgical abortions and why does the US has such ridiculous high rates of surgical abortions?

I just saw this and so sorry for the loss of your two babies. I am always concerned about how these discussions impact those who have had a miscarriage. You knew your babies were real, they were persons. It’s sad that the “prochoice” contingent doesn’t really stop and think about how cold it sounds, the way they dismiss abortion, particularly at the early stages of pregnancy as not killing a real person.
