Yes it sounds very colorless, and not very religious. I love Lent, Holy Week and Easter. It’s such a beautiful time, so sad and then joyous. Catholicism really works on all your senses - such as the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, where the church is silent and shrouded and where you follow Jesus through his agonizing journey to his death, and then the joyfulness of his ressurrection on Easter - the music, the lilies, the colors!
No, like I said, not paying attention is par for the course with him. He had no clue about Easter having anything to do with Christ/the Reserection until I told him. He said he didn’t learn it as a kid in the LDS faith. I didn’t know if it was him or the religion. I had a feeling it was him.

I will be at the Madeleine for noon Mass today and Easter Vigil tomorrow.
The Madeleine gets a lot of visitors. Some come for the music as our choirs and organ are awesome. There is a Choir School there, for grades K-8, plus the adult choir.why would they do that?
That’s hilarious!!This is OT, but I wanted to share a story.
I am originally from Utah County and didn’t get up into SLC much until my 20s. After my divorce, a group of my friends and I had our ex-husbands take our children on the same weekends so we could all be together and it wouldn’t be so lonely. There used to be a dance club in SLC called “Studebakers” that we would go to once in awhile. I was an inactive Mormon at the time. Across from this club was the city/county building. It’s made out of the same type of stone that the Cathedral is. We all thought it WAS the Cathedral and thought it so funny that here we were sitting in a club having cocktails and dancing next to a church.
Funny thing came a few years later when DH and I actually went to the Cathedral and I found out it wasn’t the same place. DUH.

Your Cathedral is GORGEOUS! Going there is a real treat!
I love it there. It is home. I worked a few blocks away from it for years, but never went in. When I started to read about Catholicism, I went there with a friend during our lunch hour, and just kept going back. About two years later, it is where I was baptized.
Your cathedral is a beautiful building and you are fortunate to have it. The art and stained glass is just fabulous. We were there near Christmas (but not for Midnite Mass) in 2007. It was a glorious experience.
You do understand right that latin america is basically catholic because european catholics went knocking on doors, especially the spanish and portugese. And at times, they didn’t knock.
I see that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings there on occcasion. Is there some other intermingling of Catholics and Mormons? Do you know why this church was renamed from St. Mary Magdelena to the Magdeliene?
I think that the catholic and mormon church in utah work quite well together. And I am sure that both mormons and catholics in Utah respect one another and how each worships. I also have this feeling that Rebecca is nice as pie to her mormon neighbors and that not one of them would recognize her on this forum. And she would not be a hypocrite because real life can be different from cyberlife.

I didn’t know the name was changed. Magdalena, Madeleine, Magdelene, it is the same name, in different languages, and different spellings. It is the Cathedral of the Magdelene, sometimes referred to as “the Madeleine”. She is the Patron Saint of the Salt Lake Diocese.
I didn’t know all of this either until I come across “stuff”, in the Catholic news and community. The Cathedral choir has a mix of people from many different faiths. The Cantor is not Catholic. One guy I know who is Catholic, and is a member of our parish, sings with the Presbyterian choir across the street.
I can understand why you take it personally, because you are so close to it all, with family members etc. I imagine it is hard to take sometimes. I mean I argue with my brother in law who is Lutheran about certain things, but it is in good humor, because I know he will never change my beliefs nor will I change his. But it’s fun to try!!
