Is it permissible to cook with chicken or beef broth while observing the weekly Friday (no meat) abstinence? Thanks!

I don’t know if this will help but the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ webpage entitled, “Questions and Answers about Lent and Lenten Practices,” says, in part:
Abstinence does not include meat juices and liquid foods made from meat. Thus, such foods as chicken broth, consomme, soups cooked or flavored with meat, meat gravies or sauces, as well as seasonings or condiments made from animal fat are technically not forbidden. However, moral theologians have traditionally taught that we should abstain from all animal-derived products (except foods such as gelatin, butter, cheese and eggs, which do not have any meat taste). OK, I know I’m old-fashioned (probably that’s because I’m old), but I don’t abstain from meat on Fridays just during Lent. This is sortofa carryover from my former kosher observances.

Someone has answered this above formally, so yes it’s permissible. Personally in this day and age (so many options because of our vegan and vege brothers and sisters) it’s easy enough not to, so if I were you I’d chose not to in the future, though if you already have done, then there’s no problem. A vegetable/fish broth is suitable for future reference if you chose it so.

I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t eat meat anyway. I’m not sure, because it doesn’t apply to me.
