I was wondering…
Would it be wrong to…
  1. Observe a Traditional Latin Mass (not in communion with Rome) without participating in order to see how the Mass used to be celebrated?
  2. Observe an Eastern Orthodox service (again without particpation)?
  3. Observe worship at a synagogue (no participation)?
  4. Observe worship at a mosque (no participation)?
I am a faithful Roman Catholic who loves the Holy Trinity and His Church. However, I also would like to see how the rest of the world worships God.

God Bless!

As a Roman Catholic it would not be wrong to observe this things but they would not fulfill your Sunday Obligation.

Whereas a Byzantine Catholic could fulfill his obligation at an Orthodox Sunday Divine Liturgy.

it is permissible for Catholics to attend, but not participate, in the interest of knowledge and a seeking of understanding. Do insure that you Sunday Obligation is fully met though.

On the Eastern Orthodox, I would encourage you to attend a Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy. It is in all practical ways identical to an Orthodox Divine Liturgy, but is in full Communion with Rome. You may participate fully in such a service.

The same is true for a Tridentine Mass in accordance with the local Ordinary.

Brendan,

I did not know that about the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy.

Thanks!
