Hello,

I cannot stop thinking about morals, and God. Nearly every minute of my day is spent thinking about God, the importance of God, morality, and social issues we face today. This has been getting worse over the years, it’s so bad I have lost interest in other things in life, and am extremely unhappy. It even distracts me from my career.

Does anyone know what this is like, what could be causing this constant, fixation? It’s ruining my relationships and life. I read somewhere that it’s caused by deep vengence and personal rage, and is an attempt to make up for little self control, this to me makes sense, as I have always had anger and self control problems.

Thanks for reading.

Thinking about God never makes one unhappy. Social issues are another thing. Try to recognize that you are only responsible for your own actions, and become fixated on seeking the kingdom, and the importance of God in your life.

If you’re focusing on morals and God in such a way that it angers you, you are not really focusing on morals and God. Whatever is of God is of charity, and childlike faith, and joyous hope. Devotion to the plan of our Heavenly Father cannot possibly incite sorrow, except when we consider our sins; even then, consideration of sins should lead to holy, well-ordered sorrow (that obliges us to do penance), not to despair. You are scrupulous, obviously, but you cannot let it overtake your soul.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said “I came that you should have life, and should have it fully/abundantly”. Full life, abundant life, is never vengeful. The vice of vengeance is a terrible daughter of anger. Examine your conscience, and discern whether your obsession with morals and God is not just an obsession with yourself and your own holiness compared to others. 🙂

Im pretty much the same way.Our life on earth and the way we live it should be taken seriously.I believe we shouldn’t worry about it (of course unless we are really doing sinful things)but be logicallly concerned.Anyway i don’t think worrying really gets us anywhere and IMO God doesn’t want us to.it appears that many people think very little about God unless they want some favor answered. If you’re Catholic we know we can’t take that attitude.we must take up our cross daily which means everyday will have its problems that we must face.

One suggestion I could make is that you go and discuss this with your GP. Sometimes these sorts of things can come from depression.

Hi,

I’m not sure why does thinking about God make you unhappy? there is nothing wrong with thinking about God all the time or losing interest in “worldly” things, provided that you still do your work and are diligent with whatever you do at a given moment… (ie: doing everything for God). But we are supposed to do everything with God in mind… for example, before our daily tasks, we should offer them to God. Scripture tells us to “pray always”. Why does this make you unhappy? Have you tried offering everything you do to God, making Him a part of your work, etc?

God bless
