Obtaining today's indulgence

Today all can obtain the Portiuncula Indulgence if we do the following:
Sacramental Confession to be in God’s grace*
(during the eight days before or after);*
Participation in the Holy Mass and Eucharist.
Visit to a Catholic Church, followed by PROFESSION OF FAITH, in order to reaffirm one’s own Christian identity;*
Say the OUR FATHER, in order to reaffirm the dignity as child of God that one received in Baptism;*
A prayer for the Pope’s intention, in order to reaffirm one’s membership in the Church, of which the Roman Pontiff is the foundation and sign of visible unity.*

I can’t go to Mass today due to work meetings. Is it possible to do everything else today then go to Mass tomorrow and still obtain the indulgence?
 
Not sure. And I can’t figure out why I can’t find it my Handbook of Indulgences.🤷

I’d say, to be safe, and since you can only obtain one plenary indulgence a day, you could do something else to get a plenary indulgence, such as adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for a half-hour (no. 3); devout reading of Sacred Scripture for a half-hour (no. 50); Stations of the Cross (no. 63); or Rosary in a church or oratory, with members of your family, in a religious community, or it a pious association (no. 48).

So, if I went to my church, and prayed the Rosary whilst kneeling and adoring the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle, would that satisfy two of the conditions you list?

If this disposition is in any way less than complete, or if the prescribed three conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence will be only partial, except for the provisions contained in n.11 for those who are “impeded.”

You can only obtain one plenary indulgence a day. Not two or more. So you can do one of those from the list in my post (which is from the Handbook of Indulgences) to obtain the plenary indulgence. Of course, you may do them all – but you only get the plenary indulgence for only one, not all.

Those weren’t conditions I listed, but four different things you could do daily for a plenary indulgence. Note it’s or, not and.

JM3’s post listed the three conditions that are necessary to receive a plenary indulgence …

To acquire a plenary indulgence it is necessary to perform the work to which the indulgence is attached and to** fulfill three conditions**:** [1] **sacramental confession, [2] Eucharistic Communion and [3] prayer for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff. It is further required that all attachment to sin, even to venial sin, be absent.

If you don’t fulfill those three conditions (and the extra one about attachment to sin), the plenary becomes partial.

So the basic rundown for obtaining plenary indulgences is this …
  • It has to be something that has a plenary indulgence attached to it.
  • You must do it within the guidelines established (such as reading Holy Scripture for a half-hour).
  • You must fulfill the three conditions.
 
Our priest promoted it in his homily today! 👍 (then reminded everyone again before the end of Mass!)
