What do you do if daydreaming is an occasion of sin for you?
Now I daydream a lot, (not talking about nocturnal emissions) and 80% of the time, it is not sinful. The problem is that it consistently, if I allow it to continue leads me to sin. I confess daydreaming in the confessional now, because of this.

Problem is, half of the time I dont willingly daydream. My mind wanders, and I find myself thinking. I often will imagine some other person is there so that i can “talk” things through. I dont have multiple personality disorder or anything like that.

Since this occasion of sin is so easy to enter, practically unavoidable. Is it mortally sinful for me to daydream? Also, since I am unsure about this, is it okay for me to recieve holy communion? I already have, so I am hoping very much the answer is no. If I dont get an answer I will just mention this in my next confession.

SOLUTION TO PEDOPHILIA IN THE CLERGY.
The article “And the Pope Cried” rolling in the Internet is touching but it does not convince everyone. However, it surfaces the problem of pedophilia in the catholic clergy, which many say is connected to the CELIBACY because the church does not allow priests to marry. Human beings were created to procreate and to have progeny (children). The bible says that man must procreate and multiply! To date, priests do not follow this specific God’s ordinance in the holy bible.
1st FACT: Catholic priests always have the chance to be alone with altar boys in their parishes or churches, especially when they prepare for mass, baptisms, or other events in the church. Mostly they dress alongside the “altar boys”. Slowly those priests develop a sexual desire towards some particular boy! Therefore, a pedophile priest is a bomb ready to go off. This crime affects disastrously not only the church’s reputation but also all those honorable priests who take that vow seriously!

1st SOLUTION: If the church changed the regulation of celibacy and allowed priests to marry, many psychologists say that 99% of the sexual offences against altar boys would go down or disappear in the catholic clergy. The proof is obvious and already exists: ALL other religions allow marriage of their priests, bishops, deacons, etc. And consequently we do not hear about pedophilia occurring in any of those churches. This sexual abuse only happens inside the CATHOLIC church. Therefore, the crime of pedophilia in the clergy is entirely the Church’s fault.

2nd SOLUTION: The Pope should eliminate the presence of `Altar Boys” in the church. Why does it have to be adolescent boys helping the priests? When Jesus said, “Let the children come to me”, He did not mean come help the clergy. The church should allow only old, retired men to help priest, not young boys. And why does it have to be BOYS helping the priests? Why?

2nd FACT: Many Christians do not know, or perhaps have not researched on their own, the fact that JESUS was married. According to independent historians, His wife was Mary Magdalena. Long ago this fact was obscured by the catholic clergy. Although Jesus is the son of God in the flesh, Jesus and God were one in purpose, objectives, and intention. To put simply, Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi and no rabbi passed the age of 25 years old without marrying, unless due to mental sickness or physical inability. Historians say that probably He got married between the age of 18 and 25 as it was common in the Jewish tradition in those days. Perhaps that is why no one knows much about Him between the age of 14 and 28 years. Marriage, as both a natural institution and a sacred union, is rooted in God’s plan and comes as a gift from the hands of God. However, how can any priest teach anything about marriage if they have NO experience in this area?

Why don’t we have written evidence that Jesus was married? The answer is with the Ecumenical Council (LXX) around the first century when the clergy removed written references from the canonic books that Jesus was married. But nowadays clues are surfacing to indicate that Jesus was indeed married. In the bible it is written about the marriage party where Jesus himself served wine to the guests. The Jews nowadays say that at that time only the FIANCÉE was allowed, or was a custom, to serve wine to the guests. Jesus served them. Perhaps the Conclave did not remove this detail from the books because they did not know Jewish traditions. In the process they removed or left out many important information to produce a bible the way they wanted.
For instance, they did not include in the Bible the “Book of Mary”, which nowadays is interpreted as being written by Mary Magdalena. She appears sitting on the right side of Jesus in the painting of the “Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. She also walked next to Jesus and followed the apostles wherever they went. She and the Mother of Jesus are seen together crying at the site of the crucified Jesus. Why only the two women are present at Jesus crucifixion? Have you really thought about it? Notwithstanding, if they indeed had children as any other rabbi in those days, this would be the most wonderful fact for the world to know. All this makes sense, if any Christian thinks about it with an open mind and his heart open to God’s spirit of revelation.
3rd SOLUTION: If the catholic church changed the rule of celibacy to allow or make it optional for any PRIEST to marry, they would be following the example that JESUS gave us. Such example includes that men should be married, have children, have FAMILY and progeny. That was God’s intention when He created Adam and Eve. What better man, other than Jesus, to show us the example of becoming a father of a family in a marriage blessed by the church, and raise children in the ways that God intended? Jesus would be the supreme example for all human beings to follow. However, the church “cut off its own legs” when it did not include in the Bible all indications of a “married Jesus” in the canonic books LXX, They eliminated more than one third of the books, and this was a great error that now hurts the church.
Yes, the Pope cried when he heard cases of pedophilia perpetrated by priests…. But His crying does not help nor change the attitude of abusive pedophile or gay priests. Therefore their sexual desire is likely to go on. But God is the one who cries more. Among men, the Pope should act on the CAUSE of the problem and not on the SYMPTOM. Crying alone does not help. As my grandfather used to say: “PIANGERE MAI RITORNA IL MORTO – crying does not bring back the dead”.

SUMMARY:
– Allow priests to marry, or give them a choice to do so if they desire.
– Eliminate altar boys in the church.
– Enlist only elderly men to help priests during the mass.

Wow, tough one. Not an expert…I’ll defer to other recommendations.

First…if we’re to love God with our whole heart, mind, soul, strength…then we must love God with our whole mind…this includes our intellect, memory, and imagination. So we need to learn to control (slowly, patiently, like a child) our imagination, eventually putting even our imagination into the service of God. Imagining how tender God is, imagining how much He loves us, imagining new ways to help others, imagining new ways we can give, etc. A good way to do this is to imagine yourself being placed into each of the scenes of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, at the start of a decade of prayer. What did it look like, who was there, what did it sound like. “Enter the scene” with your imagination. Use your imagination to get closer to God, not farther from Him!!

If your day dreams are about sin (lustful thoughts), then I recommend.
  • you confess.
  • you make a specific “purpose of amendment” . This isn’t discussed much in Catholic Formation / spiritual life any longer. But it is a very helpful thing, if done as part of our ordinary day with God (described a little below). Remember it shouldn’t be done alone, but with God, in conversational prayer.
  • But this what you form coming out of confession. A single focused purpose/statement in a single area of your life where you’ve having difficulty (in your case, control of your imagination).
-then at the end of each evening, you ask the Holy Spirit to recall your just passing day and ask for His light in terms of how you handled "day dreaming / control over your daydreaming). Note progress (…perhaps following in a short prayer of thanksgiving for those times during the day where you were able to control your daydreaming, short act of contrition for your failings, dust yourself off, and renew your intent to improve asking for help from the Holy Spirt and your Guardian Angel).
  • then go to confession the next week or two (no longer) and return again to your purpose of amendment. Confessing first problems in this area of day dreaming/use of imagination.
This process connects several things…short evening exam of conscience (always a good idea), purpose of amendment in an area that’s creating problems, with frequent confession…all done with God. Confession then gets tied back to your daily life more closely and in a more focused way.

Don’t worry…begin again, and again with the smile of a struggling child!!

Menny Punns,

It might also be helpful to develop a habit of praying for others when you catch yourself daydreaming. Short prayers. For example, if you find yourself daydreaming while on these forums…pray for all others who waste their time spamming on forums. Pray for the sanctity of all forms of human communication and interactions. Ask God to help them convert their energies into good things.

Do it with a pure intent and a smile.

Thank you, I would like to ask a few more things related to the subject though.

It isnt that my daydreams are directly lustful, but that when I allow myself to get into a habit of daydreaming they eventually become such.

Problem is that I often use daydreaming as a way of thinking, imagining a person to talk to, to brainstorm, or come up with story ideas. I also imagine myself speaking to soemone else or a group of people to practice for speaking or debating.

Because I use it for so many things, often I find myself daydreaming for about 5 minutes before I realize that I even am, though I stop immediately when I find out. I never enter a daydream with the intent of it being lustful though, and unless for story ideas, they never do.

But because daydreaming has consistently led me to sin before when I let it continue, which I have confessed, I have decided to consider it an occasion of sin dangerous enough for me to not allow myself to enter it. It’s not like a party or dark room where you can just choose not to go to a party, or stop at the door. It’s like having money being mortally sinful for a drug addict, because he sees money as a way to acquire drugs, but he cant do very well without the money can he?

this is my current situation
I entered into a daydream the saturday before today (sunday), which was in no way lustful or sinful, in fact I was just practicing speaking. I remember realizing I was daydreaming and leaving several times, so truthfully Im unsure if I was completely willing, or even partially. But either way, it made me so that I was unsure of my soul’s state by mass on sunday. I made the decision that because I did not sin in the daydream, and because I understand that if you are truly unsure you do not have to confess, to recieve holy communion.

With the above information, was it morally evil to recieve communion? I hope you dont mind greatly if I would like a priest to answer this? I am quite overly scrupulous, been scolded by my confessor before, but it make it so that any chance of wrong on my part practically shuts me down.

Prime rule: I am not an expert. Just some suggestions.

Maybe enter your daydream with God as a participant. Greet God, and build your day dream with Him and others. Do it with God.

With regard to “eventually becoming sinful”…realize the “near occasion of sin” and at that moment, that nanosecond, concretely/specifically offer the energy spent in your day dream for a great/good intention…the sanctity of all families, the persecuted Christians around the world, all aborted children and their mothers/fathers. Sanctify the “gray zone” moment.

Set a clock for your daydream. 5 minutes. Begin with an offering/intention. End with a 5 second prayer of Thanksgiving.

Don’t worry. Don’t obsess. Begin again (and again) with a smile, and stay close to the Sacraments. Chatter with God about it all.

I can’t answer the question on communion for you. When I am in any real doubt, I abstain and say a “spiritual communion” with as much purity of intent as I can muster, and make sure I get to confession soon after.

God doesn’t want us to be anxious…he wants us to be joyful and serene…and spread it wherever we go.
