Oh, I hope you don’t feel like anyone is judging you, David; I know I’m not. It’s just that Catholics are all very familiar with these sorts of weird occultnik-type charges, and there just isn’t any truth in them. “Occult” is defined as secret or hidden, as you know, and the love of Mary and the love of Christ is anything but hidden - it’s precisely the opposite, open and inviting.
If you’re interested in occult hand signs, I would suggest looking to Masonry. Of course, Masonry isn’t occult, really, but it is semi-secret, with their constant babbling of “IAOM,” “Shibboleth,” “Tubal Cain” and all the other passwords and whatnot. Their most famous example of “occult” hand sign is the “hidden hand” gesture, used to great effect by Napoleon Bonaparte. In paintings of Napoleon you’ll notice that one of his hands is partially concealed in his shirt or jacket, which signifies the anonymous and secret hand which manipulates events. You see the same hand gesture in numerous photos taken during the Communist Revolution, owing to the deep involvement of Masonry in those events, and the Christian persecution and bloody, barbaric, altogether heartless purges of Christians that followed. Same with the French Revolution. Another hand gesture you’ll see in artwork and photographs is a Mason holding their hand over their eye, or obscuring their eye with an object of some kind. This is them imitating the eye in the triangle, in order that their fellow Masons may recognize them. (Of course, the eye in the triangle is an ancient Orthodox symbol signifying the Trinity, which the Freemasons stole, changed the meaning of and adopted as their own, but that’s another story…) Another Freemason hand gesture is curling the two index fingers at the sides of the temples, in imitation of devil horns. Occasionally Hollywood celebrities have themselves photographed in that pose. There are others, too.
And, yes, in case you’re wondering, I’m the most anti-Masonic individual you’ll ever encounter.
