Occult Items-what should I do with them?

I’m wondering this, too, and with blanket statements and proclamations, I would generally prefer a bit of more information.

Inquiring minds want to know! 😃
So the energy associated with these items can return to earth and be cleansed. Burning may be okay, as the fire has a transformative effect, as long as the intent of the “ritual” was to cleanse and return the energies to earth.

Everything used in prayer and worship picks up energies and emotions involved with that. Most of the time, it is for the good, but sometimes not. It is best for those “sometimes not” instances to ground the energy and allow it be transformed.

Well, it sounds like it’s time to cleanse out some ‘spirits.’
I wouldn’t worry about your husband. He should let you do what you feel is right. 👍

Turn it around. Let’s say that your wife becomes wiccan and decides to throw out all of “her” crucifixes, rosaries, statues, etc. and to redecorate them with pentacles, smudging sticks, Goddess statues, etc.

Now, also imagine that her religious fervor includes destroying “your” art as well.

How do you feel now?

There are differing opinions on what to do with items like these. Whatever diocese you belong to there is a clergy member assigned the task of exorcist. A topic not talked about very much but it most definitely is addressed by the Church, because the occult and demonic possession of items and people is real.

Our diocese it is a deacon. Either way it is someone who has been directed with the authority designated by the bishop to handle the 'casting out" duties.

Check with your diocese, they will not look at you as though you are stupid they will direct you to help.

To believe that these issues are not real or do not exist is why so many don’t make changes in their lives. You play into the enemies hands when you don’t recognize he exits!
If you can find a Priest who do this then by all means do so.
Here’s the problem with burning or smashing " charged items " ( OP refers to them as having a spirit attached to them ) It’s for lack of a better analogy like letting the Genie out of it’s bottle & then smashing the bottle - It will attack you & then you will need the help of an experienced Exorcist.

There is power on the flip side of the Divine Realm … not as powerful for sure but not to be taken lightly. The Catholic Church has Exorcists for a reason.

See, that’s my worry. If you bury them can’t someone else find them and use them. This is where Hollywood meets reason. Have you seen Jumanji? Horrible movie for kids. (sigh)

We are so very blessed to have the Church and our priests. I will say an extra prayer for gratitude for the priests and religious who we do not always appreciate, but run to when we need them and they are there, much the same as God is. :crossrc:

Thanks for all the replies! I have some PMs I haven’t read yet either, and will get to those after posting this.
Ok to clarify.
The “stuff” is mine, I wouldn’t take his ‘stuff’ like that. The majority of the ‘stuff’ is mine in the house. My getting rid of it in whatever way will upset him because he’ll be under the impression of “why destroy it when I can have it” type thing.
As to Cheese- I realize I’m the one that changed, not him. I also realize I’m not the one to save him, God is… so what do I do… I pray for him, daily. 🙂
Someone else mentioned I have to get a divorce? My RCIA instructors are aware of his beliefs, and even met him once (him going with me to RCIA one time and Mass one time was a miracle in itself!), they haven’t mentioned that I need a divorce, they have actually said I need my marriage blessed, so what you’re saying is opposite from what my RCIA instructors and Priest are telling me… ?
To the person that said that this is just ‘junk’ - I’m not meaning any disrespect here or anything in replying to you as I can see how someone who hasn’t been involved in the craft would understand. The ‘junk’ that I have (esp the stuff with ‘spirits’ attached) are different than say, a rock or whatever you may find laying around. The one crystal ball I have you can literally feel vibrations from it, even someone who’s not involved in either paganism or Catholicism and has no idea about any of this can feel it (meaning, it’s not something in your head or whatever, there is ‘something’ different about it). I used to think that these things were helpful ‘guiding spirits’, not anymore… they freak me out. I"ve seen/heard/witnessed things over the last 12 years with these things that scare me now (and even kind of scared me then when I was in that life). My old house before I moved here (where I was actively practicing this lifestyle) had ‘ghosts’ so much so I got pictures of them that can’t be explained and people at halloween would come to my house to experience the weirdness. They would move things all over my house, my kids have seen them, visitors have seen them, and at least the family that bought my house after me saw them and moved and resold the house (I don’t know what the family after that did), all my neighbors saw them as well. The ‘ghosts’, at times, would verbally speak to people (not just me so I wasn’t hearing voices in my head lol), and at one point, one of the ‘ghosts’ passed through me (that was the scariest thing ever). I always thought a ‘ghost’ would be cold like you may have heard on tv or whatever, but this thing was hot and the grossest feeling ever. So maybe in some cases, with some people it’s just ‘junk’ with no meaning, but in my case… not so. This ‘junk’ has been around some very real, scary stuff.
To those that feel my post is ‘disorganized’ sorry about that. When I wrote it last night (early this morning) I was very tired, a little freaked out, and nervous, as I am now.
This post is admittedly ‘disorganized’ because I’m trying to reply multiple things in one post.
I hope I replied to everyone and didn’t forget one, if I did, feel free to respond and let me know and I’ll try to reply again in a more organized manner 🙂
Ok, I’m off to see these PMs

Oh, one thing I did forget to reply about was that in my RCIA (I’m the only one in it), they aren’t doing any of the norms (Rite of Election etc), and I haven’t seen anything that would indicate there are any type of exorcism prayers or anything going on?
What exactly is it during RCIA that would do exorcism?

Yes she could perform a " ritual " her self but she would be backsliding which she intends not to do. If she burns the items with the intent of destroying them this would be unadvisable.

On the other hand, by burying the items, (which she could presuumably only do on her own property) they are still around, and whatever spirits they contain would still be there.

In .
if she will do as suggested, and bring this matter to the attention of the priest who is preparing her for reception into the Church, he will make sure they are now just “things” with no power and the only power they retain will be that of superstition and fear in the minds of those who use them.

Yea, I’m not doing any ‘rituals’ anymore. I stopped doing those after my NDE and won’t do another one.
I just want to get these things out of here, not somewhere that my husband can find them, or someone else

Why would burning them seem unadvisable? It seems that if the object is gone, there would be nothing for the spirit to attach itself too. I will admit my ignorance on this subject though, so I’m really just looking to try to understand the reasoning.

The trouble is that there is nothing to contain it anymore if you destroy it’s " home "!

a minor exorcism is simply a prayer for protection and deliverance from evil. We say an exorcism, for example, as part of the “Our Father” when we ask God to protect us from temptation and deliver us from evil. They are optional with the scrutinies in Lent, and at other times when there are optional rites for blessing and anointing the catechumens. Please bring this matter up with the priest since the very fact it is troubling you means it poses a threat to your continuing conversion.

I’ll take this one folks! It’s because I love my wife and want to spend eternity with her, in the presence of the Lord, that I would not allow her to stray that far from the truth. If she did it would be with the full knowledge that she would have to go at it alone. Yes that means, if she insisted, splitting up. My duty as her husband is to help her to the kingdom, not go down with her.

None of the items you mentioned are generally found to be “evil spirit” filled items; maybe Holy Spirit filled which I know to some is scary…lol:D

I sort of disagree, through it Satan and the world can turn you from God. So it’s not powerless in this regard. More over, given what is going on in her life, I think it would be appropriate to burn it. I beleive that watching these occult objects being consumed in fire might well offer some sense of closure to her past life.

I would recommend this course for the OP… And hey, who knows…

IMO, this is a lot of superstitious nonsense. These items are just things. Things have no power. The cards don’t predict anything, no matter who uses them. The idea that Tarot cards have any power to tell us anything is a sham perpetrated by those trying to squeeze some money out of superstitious customers.

I know people who think they have “the gift”. They think they can predict the future. More often than not, they’re mentally ill and are mean, besides. One told her sister that the sister’s toddler daughter would die of cancer. She apologized for passing on this horrible news, but she had “the gift” and felt compelled to share what she knew. The child lived and is a healthy adult today.

All of this “stuff” is nothing. The items are nothing. These “abilities” are parlor tricks that only the gullible accept as real.

The danger in this stuff is that it pulls people away from God and these people worship false Gods (the female deity and “natural” gods types), and some beleive they’re worshiping Satan and other evil spirits. This is the danger - separation from God. The silly items that this woman has in her house have no power–they’re just so much paper, wood, and plastic.

Crystals? Ditch 'em if she can’t convince herself that they have no power. If she can convince herself that there’s nothing at all to them, she can make jewelry or decorations with them, or give them to someone who would enjoy making art with the crystals.

Remember a few years ago when crystal bracelets were all the rage? They claimed that if you wore a certain kind of crystal, this or that would happen/improve or whatever. Anyone ever hear of any results from these bracelets? rotfl

As far as the burning thing. I don’t know what occult believers think of fire, but doesn’t fire consume? There is the fire of Hell that burns without consuming, but then there is the cleansing of Purgatory that is like a fire - it consumes.

I’m leaving this one alone. Please disregard my latest post on the subject. I think the rest should refrain from commenting further, too.

To the OP - keep in contact with the priest at your church. He can guide you to an understanding.

Yes she could perform a " ritual " her self but she would be backsliding which she intends not to do. If she burns the items with the intent of destroying them this would be unadvisable.
Is your definition of “ritual” so narrow? What the priest does at Mass is a ritual. Any Christian can make a ritual of prayer. This is what I was referring to. That the IP would conduct a ceremony in order to release the energies contained in her items in a Christian, ritualized way. 😉 Commend these things to your God. Divinity will cleanse them.

Well, when we pray at RCIA we pray the “Come Holy Spirit” prayer, and that’s about it. We prayed an Our Father and Hail Mary for someone once, but nothing else.

Also, please understand that this fact wasn’t bothering me till last night when I was praying for someone else and it hit me that this could be why I’m having so many issues right now, then I started getting this gross feeling, like a dirty feeling… like I just had to get this stuff out of my house kind of feeling.
Now that I know the truth about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, these things are not a threat to my continuing conversion at all. As I mentioned before, my conversion process was kind of miraculous and no object (‘spirit’ attached or not) is going to turn me away from what I know now and how God got me here.
My concern with these things is that I’m having all sorts of bad things happening to me over and over, and getting worse and worse the closer I get to being Confirmed, not that they ‘tempt me’ or whatever.

Do you think it’s non-sense that there’s a devil? Or do you think it’s non-sense that the devil seeks (ever continuing) the fall of Man? Or is it non-sense in your opinion that the devil have the power to use facination over objects to effect his ends?

Which part of this equation is nonsense?
