OCD and Confession

Hi I am new here and glad I found this site. I just went to Confession and told the priest all my sins. I said them in a normal voice. I had one that I felt really bad about that was more serious than the others. I may have said it rather quickly, but still, I think he heard me. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I should mention. The Confession was completed. He did not react to my big sin or say anything about it other than giving me a penance. I am obsessing about “Did he really hear me say that terrible sin?” and “Am I really forgiven?” Any advice out there? Thank you.

Sounds like you made your confession and just said the one sin faster than the others. (nerves…).

Priests hear big sins all the time and I imagine often do not react necessarily. He may have judged to give you your penance and not say anything otherwise about it.

You were not trying to hide it right. So you got a little nervous and said it a little faster than the others. It happens I imagine to many.

If you went in and had “murder” to confess and instead said “I was mean to someone”…well that would be a problem

I imagine you were not saying it in a wee little mouse voice and so fast that he did not hear anything.

If a priest does not understand what you just said or if they hear some “words-sound” but do not know what was said…they will say “what? was that?”.

I recall confession where I said my just my state in life and like details too fast and the priest stopped me…(have had it actually happen more than once)

As has been said, priests will stop you if they can’t hear you well enough. I was very nervous in my first confession after about a dozen years away from the church, and was probably speaking too softly, so was asked to repeat myself.

Of all things, it was when I was telling the priest how long it had been since my last confession - not the sort of thing you want to have to repeat when it’s been a long time!
