OCD and forgetting sins

I have OCD and scrupulosity. I apologize whole heartedly if I am annoying anyone for posting so much about sin.

My priest told me to only go to confession once a month or once every two months. He told me that because of my OCD I am not able to tell the difference about sin.

I can’t remember if I have commited a mortal sin but I feel like I have. I have forgotten it if it exists.

Is forgetting a mortal sin make it not a mortal sin? Any help would be most appreciated. I’m not sure about what happened.

I want to receive communion this afternoon at Mass but i’m scared.

Forgetting a mortal sin doesn’t make it a venial sin or not a sin at all.

That said, if you’ve forgotten a mortal sin, but in confession made an earnest attempt to confess all of your sins, it is forgiven. However, should you remember it, bring it up at your next confession.

Also, remember that you can’t commit a mortal sin without knowing you have as full knowledge and complete consent are required.

Thank you. I am going to have faith that i’m not in mortal sin because I can’t remember whether or not the sin was mortal. I don’t even know for sure if I sinned.

I always pray for OCD people. My 15 year old daughter was extremely OCD to the point of being dysfunctional. She went to a satellite facility of Steubenville for a retreat at San Diego. She had a wonderful experience in the adoration room where she cried for hours and knew / felt the personal love God has for her. She came back cured, I reiterate-cured. That was a year ago. Still OCD free. What a blessing. Methinks different sites have different blessings. Like Lourdes. I recommend going to adoration anywhere the people trully believe in the true presence.

To those who are OCD - God does love you and does understand **you **and knows you try your very, very, very best. Take comfort in that.

Spiritual directors throughout Catholic history have advised scrupulous penitents to avoid confessing sins that you are in doubt of them being mortal sins. Since you are known to be scrupulous, unless you are absolutely sure they are mortal (gravely sinful, full knowledge, full consent) then you have a duty to avoid confessing these. This will only aggravate your condition. This applies to the integrity of your confessions, too. Unless you are absolutely certain you withheld a certainly mortal sin in confession, then you must not repeat the confession.

One other consistent piece of advice they gave scrupulous penitents: obey your confessor absolutely. Do not go from confessor to confessor, do not doubt the guidance they give you, and do not put your own judgement before theirs. God has given you this priest as a guide to help you in these troubled times.
